Thanks, they are the sunshades are properly wedged in, the gap between the radiator and wall is tiny so they are touching pretty much the entire surface. Im thinking I will just have to take them out.0

I have now fully insulated my unused back door (I'm clearing out the utility room so some work can be done in there, and it seemed a great opportunity). So the polystyrene and foil underlay left over from putting the bamboo floor down years ago, and the double-sided tape left by the bathroom fitters have been out to good use. I have also cleared out the utility room drain which was full of grit and gunk and grout/cement/paint and draining slowly (there is a channel from it round the utility room, so despite the volume of water from the WM, DW and sink going into it, there is no pressure to push the gunk through). I'm glad I did it now and hopefully won't have to deal with it in the ice and snow if and when they turn up!
Yesterday I also collected winter tyres for my dad and OH, which are safely stored. Apparently some manufacturers are running out already... So if they don't collect them soon I might be able to make a profit
The wood stove is working well, I have tested the heating and bled the radiators, the new underfloor heating in the bathroom is now starting to be used occasionally to take the chill off, and the dehumidifier is out and ready to run to deal with the condensation (I have metal single-glazed windows, so it's a fact of life...)
Loo roll and food stocks are all well in hand, so the only major things left to do are sorting out clothes and putting summer ones away, and putting the curtains back up when the plastering and decorating are done...0 -

Barbour style Hunter Wellies that are comfortable and RUBBER planned. I refuse to touch plastic as rubber is where it is at.
I browsed sites for Over Window Insulation Film which I am contemplating using over windows, ventilation is an issue.
Cupboards are chock a block as yours truly would rather budget from a position of abundance than deprivation that comes from horrible hand-to-mouth.
I must say from my rough perusal of the threads you folks are a diligent lot.:money:#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

I have 2 free standing radiators. Is there any way I can help keep heat in on them at all. My storage heaters create an atsmosphere that makes me ill.
My Double Bed is gonna be my refuge during the day and night except when I entertain guests. I have gangs in place so I can fix up Laptop, Iphone and Junk phone so I can conduct my daily business from that stately position.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Looks even worse for the 23rd........
So I see! I've been checking that page every time I'm near my computer - not entirely useful!
I'm more or less prepared for winter, barring the odd shopping trip this week and maintaining the various supplies I've accumulated. I don't know, though, if I'm ready for it, if that makes senseI'm better off than lots of you but I'm not looking forward to waiting two hours for a train or other means of getting home just because it's a bit cold or wet!

Sneaking out of lurkdom. Still trying to finish thread 2 &10 pages to catch up on 3, everything moves so fast!!!
A few pages back it was been discussed the dangers of falling on ice. 2 winters ago a young man in his early twenties was on a night out. He slipped on the ice and hit the back of his head on the kerb and died a little while later. Sorry to be the angel of doom, it's so important we all take care and look out for others of all ages. I'm so pleased I have my Yak Trax which i bought in Canada some years back. Just a bit frustrated with DH who has misplaced his:mad:
My winter prep is moving on nicely. I have been fortunate enough to get a warmfront grant or a new boiler. We now have hot water that is scalding, even though the thermostat is set the same on the water cylinder, we'll have to turn it down. The radiators have never been so hot. We live next to the canal and weather has turned noticibly damp and cold. DH even put the heating on low all night last night as DD & DS shared bedroom is above the garage and gets very cold. That won't happen again tonight, I'll put the little oil filled radiator in their room until it gets really cold and needs the heating on:p
Car serviced and passed MOT, friend who is ex valeter did the interior for me yesterday for next to nothing in comparison to the garage, he's been out of work 2 years. He's put some rain repel on the windows. The glare thing on a night, some people are more sensitive than others and interior screens get mucky quickly. I suffer too, my optician says it is like nyctalopia(but not the underlying causes so don't frighten yourselves looking it up;)) I have glasses for driving and I went to Specs*vers and got their driving lenses for night, they are yellow and had them put into a what I thought was a lovely frame of sunglasses which covered my whole eye only to find when they were made up I look like ronnie Barker with yellow lenses:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:good job I only wear them in the dark!!!
Have sorted & washed all hats gloves etc
New wellies for kids need snow boots for me
Snow box in car just need to put water and chocolate in car for emergencies of course:T
Lots of loo roll and washing up liquid?!
Plenty of food stuffs just a couple of items to add to.
Lots ofde icer spray and screen wash in various freezin temps!
Snow shovels and a brush scraper thing for the car from Mr A
Vests and thermals for DS who is 2 DDgot hers from last year.
Need to do garden, inventory of freezer and have electric blanket repaired.
Need help with this one if anyone could advice please? DS is still in a cot bed with a cotbed quilt of maybe one tog. Room very cold, what size single quilt would you use, he's moving into bottom bunk very soon. Looked on all mums sited got ltd info. Worried 4.5 won't be warm enough. Have 10.5 but DD has has 13.5 don't want to cook him or suffocate him. He wears pj's or fleecy sleepsuit to bed and is very wriggly in bed. So sorry post is extra long will creep into lurkdom again0 -

But I have got no more nails pads left from the curtain rails, so I wonder if they would do the trick? I could use a ruler to push them against the wall for adhesion...
That sounds like it would work. I used staples as it was what I had. It worked for me but it was awkward as the stapler only just fit.(\__/)(='.'=)(")_(")0 -
Sorry I've not popped in for a while, as you can imagine it's been a crazy time. I still don't have anywhere new, but I'm continuing my hunt and really, really want to be settled by Christmas. So, it's full steam ahead with that at the moment.
I bought myself some lovely cosy welly socks from Mr T the other day, they are lovely and warm and when I got to the till they were only £2.50 not £5, so that was a result. Will have to pop in again on Monday to see if they have anymore. Otherwise, I dug out my Autumn/Spring jacket and washed it whilst the weather was still good, which I'm glad about as I've needed it over the last few days. I did have to make an emergency purchase last week, I was at work and only had my rain coat and as the day wore on it got colder and colder. I was going out for dinner that evening and it was freezing, so I bought a scarf from Mr T. Very pretty, made from viscose, so cosy as well. It said £7 which I thought was steep, but I was cold, so I bought it. At the till £3.50, I do love it when that happens.
I will try and have a catch up today, but in the meantime, I hope everyone is well and warm!Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
