Gee it was colder last night, still didn't crack on the heating front - may put it on for HH tonight to check it is working properly and to see if any rads need bleeding.

I need to sort out why there is such a huge draft by my pc desk when the door to the hall is open - have a sausage there but the chill is big.

I want to make some progress on handles for the new windows today.

Toots if you pop in today I hope you are having a lovely birthday.

We want a woodburner, too. I'm curious - what have you been quoted for the installation? I need a guide about how much to save up.

We're using a HETAS installer so no need to pay council for building regs. Removing the old gas fire, making safe, creating chamber for stove and rendering it plus fitting the stove is £500 + vat. There are extra's though. Tiles price will depend on how many we need and what we go for, we need a new pot and cowl for the chimney, stove pipe and register plate. Luckily we don't need a chimney liner. Need a plumber though as central heating pipes are in the way. Oh, and the stove as well-lol We've gone for the Aarrow Acorn 5 multifuel and have paid just over £500 for that. We're also not in a smokeless zone. I know prices differ everywhere but we've had quotes ranging from £1100 to £2000 plus HETAS smoke test and fire on top. My sister who is also in Lancashire had quotes of up to £6000 when she got prices last year. I think some were taking the proverbial. She's no chimney though so has an internal flue that was really expensive. HTH

Just been to Aldi & bought DS who is 3 some Thinsulate Ski mittens for £1.49! Bargain! Lovely & warm. bit too big but for that price I can't go wrong as they will keep his little hands warm. They also had a range of adult gloves there too. Not sure if its Nationwide but worth a look!

Expensive much.

Tugrin, it's not mandatory unless your chimney fails the smoke test BUT some installers are saying they are:mad: Building regs changed in October 2010. There's more on the HETAS site and stovesonline (?) did loads of searching previously so think that's the name. Also thegreenlivingforum.net is worth a look at as they've a whole woodburning section.
  • Chirpychic,

I was at a boot sale last weekend. It was on the dual carriage outside Reading on the way to Basingstoke. There was a stall there selling a Christmas pudding teapot. I didn`t see a price, but it caught my eye and I wish I had bought it now lol just to sell on. I see you live around Hampshire and wondered if the person who gave you the box of boot sale goodies was the same person selling the teapot last week. Possible proof of `it`s a small world` lol.

Cor thanks abwsco - this has really cheered me up - if my chimney has been checked by the sweep this autumn does that count I wonder. After all I have been having open fires since I moved in so its a good chimney. This means the prospect of a stove and a nicewarm AND cheery house is MUCH more of a proposition!! Oooh Im so happy I could do a little dance!
Have taken the 'Don's' advice and planted some sweetpeas this am under a cold frame - fingers crossed.
This afternoon its strimming as much of the lawn as I can because of the broken lawn mower so I confidently expect a sore back by 6 pm.
That will mean I can spend tomorrow legitimately sitting and mending my poor sweaters - have sorted the buttons out already!

Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd save up to 25% on selected energy saving products at homebase.

Leaflet shows thermawwrap, cylinder jacket, radiator foil, pipe insulation, door strip, double glazing film and radiator valves.

Maybe worth a look. Don't forget your nectar card - double points.

Hi Tugrin, afaik that test won't count as they have to do one where the top and bottom of the chimney are closed off so that they can see if any leaks are coming in anywhere. When we had our front one tested last year so we could use it for an open fire the sweep didn't close off the top. Still checked for leaks though but good draw as well. Plus, the regulations are altering all the time. Would say it's promising though as it's good enough for an open fire so fingers crossed for you:)

Ours isn't as simple as we thought though as they found CH pipes were in the way so we've currently got a plumber here sorting that out and knocking a hole in the side of the chimney breast.
