The sun is out, the sky is blue, but boy it is freezing cold outside with a noticeable frost. Heating is on.

well we definitely had frost here overnight, the rooftops had a shiny white veneer of it and the tips of the grass too. nearly gone now that the sun is fully up but it was there

it says it's 3C but it'st 20.3C in here, i did try the lounge heater on it's lowest setting and it works, yay! that's the two heaters we use working ok which is a relief the landlord here doesn't want to pay for repairs anymore so i would be concerned if one of them didn't work.

alas though, i'm too warm! i took off my slippers and have bare feet and i'm about to take off my dressing gown too and just sit here in my fleece and leggings. the downstairs neighbour must have had her heat on high last night or something i really feel uncomfortably warm. either that or i have a fever but i don't think that's it :p

i did hear her coughing last night so i suspect it's her heat i'm getting, poor thing seems prone to chest infections and cranks up the heat... i do feel sorry for her personally but i do love her heat! i've turned my storage heater off, i don't think i'll touch either again til it gets truly cold and not until after i've done all my bubble wrapping and putting up the hall curtain etc etc.

here's hoping everyone else is also staying comfortably warm!

Morning! We were out bright and early, beautiful day but brrrr. We popped up to the market and were so early most weren't open! But one was, that had kiddies magic gloves for £1. We tried ours on from last year on and they are too small, so they have chosen 2 pairs each. One can go in nursery bags and the other for at home.

We were well wrapped. DD has knitted leggings on and a lovely big parka, and DS is wearing a thermal vest. They have both taken their socks off now, as they are playing boats and "paddling".

I think it feels cold, but the garage room is in full sun with patio doors, so I've propped the inner door open, moved the airers in there and hopefully it will share some of its heat...

Tried my new curtains over the old ones, but the eyelets are not the same distance apart, and one set has more than the other, lol. They will have to come down anyway as they are creased to high heaven! Mañana. :D

If anyone is after safety pins I got a good selection from Poundland last week.

No heating on yet but have had the electric blanket on the past couple of nights to warm the bed up before getting in it. To anyone pondering about one I would say get one. Wish we'd done it years ago as it's bliss getting into a warm bed. Not sure of running costs but I only have it on for 30 mins before going to bed.

Another tip is to get a down body warmer or gilet if you can. Makes such a difference.

Our chimneys are going to be swept soon and DH still has huge trunks of apple tree to cut up but there's no rush for that as we don't need it this winter. Going to fill up our indoor log baskets today as well.

I love winter as long as we don't get too much rain.
  • well you have all inspired me...along with the fact we went out for my birthday meal last night and my other half was shivering, even in long sleeves and a jacket. But it had dropped from 32 in the daytime sun to ten degrees in the evening, it feels nippy to us.

So today I went to buy some bits and pieces at the shops and then started on putting our winter curtains up and taking the summer ones down. My OH convinced me to put the winter quilt on the bed today and bought me a pair of thermal pyjamas for 5 euros...a bargain . I usually hate wearing anything to bed but last year it got absolutely Siberian in our mountain village last winter. So much so I rode the scooter with thermal underwear, thick trousers and a polo neck under a chunky jumper with a padded jacket on top. Greece is very cold and sometimes very wet in the winter...don't believe the fairy tales about endless sunshine.

went to the huge hypermarket that sells everything and it was packed with families stocking up to make their homes cosy this winter. Lots of cushions, throws, quilts, thick curtains and candles in their baskets. I also noticed they now sell furry leg warmers, thermals and warm gloves and scarves in every colour you can imagine.

I bought 4 neck roll pillows in their sales basket so now going to sit and sew them into new covers I have made. I sleep with my pillow folded under my neck to support it and they are perfect for my husband's lower back problem. What a great bargain!

Off to sort out our gloves and scarves and pop them in the washer. I put the winter curtains up today and now I am too hot...you can't win, can you?

Up at 3 this morning as poor ds has a bug and was sick everywhere including my bed...twice:eek:

So 5 loads of washing done, hanging out the firs at around 6 and realised i could see my breathe in the garden! First time this winter. Nice bright day so got lots of washing hung out but still had to put 2 in the dryer as ran out of line! Anyhow thought it was the perfect time to switch over to duvets from quilted covers for the kids ( as all the beding was on the line!)

So should be snuggly for them tonight.
