Preparing for winter III

We need new fleecy PJs.
Normally i buy them every year from Primark, but i refuse to this year, as they seem to have raised their prices astronomically! You used to be able to get PJs for about £2-£3, now you are looking at at least £6!
I dont mind paying £6 in other shops, where the quality warrants it, but not in Primark!
We still have our fleecy blankets that we bought from primark last year, so wont have to worry about that. My main concern is gas usage. I am on a PAYG meter for gas, and dont want to exceed £40 a month this winter..finers crossed!!0 -
Oh dear... still decorating with no radiators and no curtains on my single pane draughty sash windows! Must crack on this weekend and get lots done!0

i understand what you mean, it can get hard trying to stretch things every year, we seem to be worse off every year, but there are some good things about the cold weather too , making nice hot pots of soup and nursing them in the cold, hot chocolate for when you need a cheer up, and comforting hot water bottles always make me feel better too, and the thought that British Gas are getting no money out of me till I really have to put the heating on, It is tough but there are some nice little treats, don't forget to be good to yourself and make it as comfortable as possible #hugs
Thanks for this. Winter is my favourite time of the year and I'm feeling much better now I've cracked out the proper winter clothes from under the spare bed. Currently sat with my favourite woolly hat on! Am just feeling a bit miserable because I haven't done any of my summer things like hanging up summer curtains and our last bill from British Gas was our highest summer one ever. Feel like if that's how high our bill is without using the heating then God help us. However I've made a lovely butternut squash and red pepper soup which has made life seem a bit less grim.
Thanks to Kittycatface for the wheat bag link. Will be making one soonTimes is 'ard.0 -

:j Well .... they will be a few inches short (how much will depend on how I can fix them - they have raggy ends IYKWIM - any suggestions:question: ) but should come down to about where the hem starts (so that's thicker at the floor anyway).
They're a dark purple (curtains are light beige) but tbh I don't really care as long as they help the heat (and at least they do match!).
I also found another hardly used fleece which I was also going to make cat beds with (I used to do these for a rescue) which has washed up fantastically well so will be finding a use for that too!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Spurred me on to look at the forecast, thank you. Lows of 1 degrees overnight here. Pops keep warm.
Got my very large quilt over the duvet now. Girls will have their fleeces over them tonight.0 -
It has felt even nippier today, think tonight will be colder than last night. Still I am not complaining, I've got sausage and veg casserole cooking with butternut squash mash for dinner tonight, will be nice and warming
Then once finished tidying up will have a nice long hot soak and get me fleecy's on
and snuggle under a blanket with the candles going, it's weird how you look forward to the small things most of all. Saying that I had some clothes out on the line earlier, and when they came in they smelt of the coldness iyswim, I love that smell, it is so fresh and clean smelling

Hi everyone! I had a couple of peeks at this thread last winter, but never found the time to actually buckle down to getting ready. Consequently it was not a very warm one! So, this year, I'm making a big effort to start early, and have started my winter prep list! (It's actually quite long, and slightly daunting!)
I do have a question, does anyone have any recommendations for insulating cat flaps? Ours is at the end of our hallway in the backdoor and it can be quite drafty when the wind blows. Doesn't help that our living room is open plan with the hallway...any suggestions?0 -
Tape a flap of bubble wrap over the cat flap?0
