Well, I'll be honest it is not James Maddens prediction site at all I - gave up with that last year when it all pretty much came to nothing - but this one I have been keeping an eye on and he seems quite confident.

I have a few things to be done still but nothing major at all. I am thinking about putting the flannelette sheets on the bed tonight actually as I have just been over the field with the spaniel for a walk and the air is very autumnal and quite chilly!
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D
  • guys - PLEASE get your chimney swept before you have a fire. We didn't, lit one last night, and had to get the fire brigade out to put our a chimney fire. I've spent all day today cleaning soot and ash off everything, still got a lot more to do, and we need to get our flue liner and woodburner repaired.

Don't make the same mistake we did!

Very good timely reminder. It's just not worth the risk!

also James Madden has started charging, I swear last year he didn't charge for his winter forecast at this time.

I read it is a make or break for his career and the guy that posted that shocking forecast too.

Oh no, i'm so sorry for you, hope it is all ok and not too bad nor going to cost too much to repair.

Also sorry but i forgot the people's names who replied to my query about cold babba but thank you. That is reassuring.
My plan was to all snuggle in the one room if the heat went out and use all out blankets etc and just keep each other warm.
My husband who is 20 years older than me said they didnt have CH when he was growing up and they did just fine... though they did have a rayburn which i bet really helped!!
Might invest in a fleece sleepsuit though!
Everything is always better after a cup of tea

He's not a meteorologist, just another amateur same as James Madden, infact there are several out there now charging for their forecast who where only posters 2 years ago on weather forums.
Many have a go at forecasting and within the context of the forum that's fine, as everyone knows it's only 'having a go' but when they get quoted outside it's taken almost as a fact.
The newspapers love reports like this as it sells papers, "average winter with snow in scotland as usual " isn't going to sell papers.

Snow watch has a whole thread for forecasts, they gather all the forecasts from pros and amateurs, it's one of my favourite forums but beware, they are all snow lovers, and obviously have no need to worry about their heating bills or the elderly/disabled etc.

EDIT: I was referring to a post by rainy-days but it seems to have been deleted but it was the link that Kittie posted.

Thanks for your reply yesterday, Fruball. I don't really know why I hadn't thought of it before. I need to get cracking on it pretty soon, or I know I won't do it...then suddenly, when it's freezing I'll be hitting myself over the head about it...it's difficult to think of snow, ice, wind and rain when it's a delightful sunny day like today here! And if I don't, I won't get them at the reduced prices, or worse, they'll have sold out, and then I'll really have the hump.

Hi to happytails...someone (can't remember who now) put a link to the Dunelm website a couple of pages back - that's when I got all excited thinking I wouldn't need to spend ages and faff about sewing (not one of my talents!) bits of fleece together for our house!!

Bother, another hiccup -- a couple of lovely colours to choose from. Makes it more tricky now..... :rotfl:
