Not sure why it was deleted either - along with two others who commented directly about it! Obviously, it vexed somebody but given that it was not hysterical or in any way defamatory I fail to understand what the issue was; unless someone complained about it being copywrite!

James Madden is charging - couldn't believe it when I read that I had to go off and check! My flabber has been ghasted! I really would not pay for it and I don't mean that in a nasty way, it is just that he said last year it would be a particularly bad winter and I went all out for it to be so. In the end it was nothing more than a huge let down - a whacking great anti climax!

That said I did a final stock up on Anadins etc and throat lozengers today. Been going through them for the last week or so as we have had this horrible cough.

I also got from Wilkinsons one of those rubber (with handle) window wipers. Found my old one very useful last year for wiping the condensation down on the windows and them mopping up the water into a towel.

It might have been because you didn't link to where it was from or credit the author/source?

Bit rude to delete it without letting you know why.

I make it 68 by 52 inches. Divide the centimetres by 2.5 to get inches.

  • Hi thanks.
We have a Gas boiler and I remember when we had that bad weather 3 years ago they said we came within 3 days? of running out of gas.

We haven't ever had a power cut that lasted more than an hour or 2 but I am prepared to lose electricity. It is the gas im not prepared for.

I have no idea how we would keep a room warm if that happened!
We do have lots of blankets, I have plenty of clothes for him, snow suit, mittens, hats etc and I have so far 2 days of readymade formula (plan on getting some more).
Oh also have nappies to last into January too.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful.

I know you said ready made formula - if you're able to breast-feed, that will be easier for you as you won't have to worry about how to make sure bottles are the right temperature, or making sure they're sterilised properly. I had a cold water steriliser but I needed to rinse away the solution with boiled water, & of course a microwave steriliser won't work with no electricity.

Hi everyone! Long-time reader, infrequent poster -- may I ask advice please? Thinking about using fleece/fleece blankets this winter to make our kitchen cosier...DD1 does her homework in there, artwork spread across the big table, and stays up till quite late, and of course, sitting still for so long, she begins to feel chilly in no time, even though she is well wrapped-up. The room has a couple of cold spots even when the heating is full on. We've got voile panels at the French windows, which at the time I thought were stylish, and didn't bother with proper curtains. As we live in the London area I s'pose we hadn't given winter much thought until the last couple of years - we used to hurry up and finish in the kitchen then scurry back to the warmth of the front room. Now, I've been giving the fleece idea some thought, and am wondering if those telescopic tension rods, which we use for our nets, would hold the weight of a fleece or fleece blanket, maybe two? fleece sizes would be 46'' wide with 90'' drop. I'm a bit useless when it comes to anything DIY or practical, and am not a sewer or knitter...haven't got a clue! Help! :o

I'd get a fleece & drape round the chair DD uses as well as the fleece curtains - really helped when I was struggling to do uni work at night with children asleep &DH working nights! I wore fleece pjs, snuggle socks, slipper boots, dressing gown, tucked a fleece round the computer chair to block out the drafts, & sometimes popped a hot water bottle in the layers...

Where sell big fleeces? I too have a reasonable drop (90") in my dining room, we have curtains by our patio but could do with an inner layer between the curtain and window.

Not done much this week RE winter prep. DD got a jumper and DS got a hoody and a fleece sleepsuit today for winter. Not done any house prep since the radiator got fitted last week. Ive plans to adjust the dogs coat and DS' fleece all in one suit this week though, must do those :)

I also need to sort through the kids clothes/pjs and make sure we arent short. I know we need vests for DS and DD will need new wellies nearer the time. They both need slippers for when it gets colder.

I was in L1dl today & they had longer fleeces, in lovely cuddly microfibre... £7.99 each, I think.

I also saw in their flyer, they've got kids padded waterproof stuff next week - jackets & dungarees, up to age 8. Marilyn Monroe, I thought of your DD! (& pouted because DS2 is too big at a sturdy 9 to fit them ;-) )

I was looking at Lidl's offers for the next week or two and thinking I may buy a waterproof top/trousers too(it will last me years...)just have to see if it happens on a week where I buy a bus ticket that gives me a week's travelling at a good price...otherwise it is no longer a bargain...

Now we have an Aldi opening, how nice it would be if Lidl would come here too...there is a retail unit that is probably big enough for them just to move in and avoid building a new one.

:rotfl: I was, last year, I bought 26 blue ones as interlining for curtains for mums bungalow, sons flat and mine, and 6 white ones which are extra curtains as the mice ate my window quilts in storage. I was going to get some more but they've stopped selling the white ones (plenty on ebay for loads £££) which is annoying.

Blue fleeces aren't soft enough for PJ's even after washing, but the

Brilliant idea to make my own, why didn't I think of that :o

When I added the edit bit to my post it said board guides removed your bit due to copywrite.
Think you need to show the link that the quote came from too.

Do keep an eye on the snow board link I posted, I think you'll like it.
They gather all the forecasts (most of which aren't made till the end of autumn) for pros and amateurs, many of which have been doing it for years.

One of the difficulties is the fact that we're a small island with big variations in weather. A forecast could be spot on for here in London but way off 80% of the country.
I like the 90's winters here, hardly any snow and not that cold, it was great for heating bills.
DD who was born in '90 didn't believe me that daytime temps never got above 0c as recently at the late 80's! Used to look at me like I was lying! that was until 09/10 winter ;)
