Anyone else notice the nights are drawing in? Time to Ramp Up those preps!!!

Yes...I will need to get a torch to walk the puppy in the morning/evening soon!

I also noticed that some of the leaves on just one tree have started to turn already. And I definately felt a chill in the air tonight.

Speaking of yaktrax :D DD is in a ladies size 6 shoe () and I want to get her some but no idea what size I need to buy. I was looking at getting her the pro traction ones as she's got so much walking to do to and from school as well as out with me for work. Plus as she's still recovering from a broken knee (just building up the muscles now that have wasted due to being in a cast/brace since JUNE!) the last thing I want to risk is her not putting them on properly and falling. Am I right in thinking I get her a small? And then me in a size 7 would be the same? :o Will also have to remember to make sure they go over any school shoes I buy her later in the year (she's been instructed to wear trainers until at least half term due to the amount of walking she'll be doing).
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

I remember being confused by the sizing but I googled and found a guide - thats not much help but hopefully you will find it too.

I bought imitation ones for DS and the sizing was different for those which is why I can't remember!

DS was mortified that I got them for him, but after his friends started borrowing them he soon changed his mind so the cheaper ones are better than none IMO!!

Pigpen - I hope you don't get raided! :D You have enough there to start your own pharmacy! Still better safe than sorry, as my Mam says!

There are 10 of us here and my son with diabetes has his supplies for that and also different medication as a lot contains sugar which we can't count for so we get different stuff for him. I have 1 with lowered immunity and on growth hormone replacement so we need to keep on top of her and OH catches every sniffle going and I can't stand man-flu .. and the 2 littlies are teething!

    hiya,
does anyone have any ideas of how to cover a back door and window similar to this one? It's so draughty in the winter. It's a well used door so needs to be moveable.

Try a portier rod. It moves with the door. Not so cheap though.
  • Hi, a few months back people were talking about a "dry buddy" - did anyone invest in one? If yes, was it any good? What has the electric consumption been like? what about condensation? Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

The same as I suggested for the person a few posts above would work. A tension rod across the top, sew some curtains rings onto a fleece blanket but I'd either cut the fleece bit in front of the window so it didn't drape in front of the wall or have 2, one full length door fleece and a 2nd smaller one for the window which could be rolled up when needed. Or see windows quilts post on the previous page.

Autumn is definately my fave season. All of my Family hate the heat, especially me at the minute being 32 weeks pregnant, so I find we hibernate away in the Summer but once it gets a bit cooler we all go for walks in the forest and parks, much nicer :D

  • Well I have lined my first curtains with fleece - got hubby to take down my bedroom ones to wash ( been a year since last done as been waiting for nice weather, but gave up and tumble dried them) then once dry using safety pins, pinned fleece onto lining and am impressed, from outside it looks like I have turquoise curtains hanging up. They now keep the light from the street light out of room which is wonderful, street lights are far apart on road but my luck I have one opposite my house and never been able to get bedrooms dark enough, even black lining let light through, but now room black as pitch.

These were the reduced price one in Mr T last month. Also impressed with the size as only needed one fleece per curtain......they are go from just below the tape to window ledge, and cover full width of curtain 5ft.

Last night it was chilly but even though I had two windows open in room, it was snug as fleece stopped coldness coming in......

So to whomever way back first mentioned fleeces as lining a very big thank you, will be slowly putting them on all windows and now will have plenty spare for snuggling as for my bedroom and living room I had bought 2 fleeces per curtain but now will only be using one each. If I feel windows need a bit more protection during winter can always pin on another fleece as they are so light.

Hopefully picking up the double slanket from Mr A today as when I ordered it, it said should be in store for Saturday, but they have not text me to say its in, so will pop along in hope it is as they are all sold out now. Material from that will be used, I hope, to make fleecy pjs for me, have bought a pattern and although my dress making skills are zero plan to have a go.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
