Preparing for winter III

My friends pointed out to me this afternoon that the more stressed I am at work, the more I want proper snow :rotfl: Hadn't thought about it like that, but maybe I do long for some breathing space!
Speaking of which, it's time I stopped [STRIKE]skiving[/STRIKE] taking a break on the internet.0 -
prepareathome wrote: »I cannot remember which thread ( this or tougher one) someone had water under bath because of damaged sealing and I said mine needed doing, well yesterday I actually took off the old seal - found it was much worse than I had thought, the old silicon was like a ribbon and although when cleaned bath it stayed in place it actually was only lying on bath and against tiles not actually fixed to it, so had to do whole way round bath. I doubt I my work would be approved by a competent plumber but there is a seal all round bath, its just silicone is not just there but in some places is thicker but when I tried to sort that I was left with a gap so would rather it look a bit messy but as its drying its not to bad - just checked and a small gap had appeared but silicone is still slightly soft so was able to just press it down and smooth it. So think will have to say no baths before tomorrow or Tuesday nor showers ( as shower is over bath and the head is of dinner plate size to give it time to dry. I did at back of sink as well, that seal had fully gone and at least water down back of it I could mop up, but as I was doing the seal did it and so far even though sink being used for washing and teeth its holding. So want to thank who it was who mentioned it as am hoping your disaster story helps me prevent one, although I do wish it had not happened to you.
That was me! I think a lot of people would be surprised if they actually had a look at their seals! Well done on doing yoursAnchor yourself to the foundations of everything you love.
Thank you to all those who post competitions!:beer:0 -
Just seen this on BBC - Met Office has issued a snow warning for tomorrow:

By the nice weather we are having. After spending God knows how much on all the winter stuff I thought I might need, got enough winter gear to enable me to go to the 'Poles' for a holiday!
I know all the stuff will keep until next year ( or possibly the 'summer' months) would not be the first time it has snowed in June :-))
I really wanted to try out my new boots and snow grippers apart from that I do like the snow only sorry we have not had any this year.
Anyone else feel like this?:DYou live..You learn.:)0 -

It has been a while since I've been planning for winter. I've just redone my list though and have added a few additional things to it. I was thinking about entertainment for any times the power goes off and have set aside a box with some playing cards in. I'm also looking into some puzzle books to help keep the mind sharp too. My trusty wind-up torch has lasted well despite daily use for the last few years and I'd like to get another one with a larger amount of LEDs in to give out more light - more like a lantern than a torch, I guess. I'm still looking out for bargains on gas canisters for the camping stove too.

I know exactly how you feel, we have been up to Scotland the last 2 winters and battled through snow, this winter we move up for good and what do we have.....rain. Its not that I wish the bad weather on the kind folk up here but we stocked up on things to get us through a hard winter not living in the bigger type of town that we were used to and we haven't needed it-still the winter is not over yet and I think I will feel cheated if we don't at least get a little snow0

rainy and dull here but it could have been very much worse. The french doors are both off as they are faulty and are being replaced, naturally the house temperature has plumetted and we have also had power dispruptions today due to supply work
I was wondering why I feel yukky and of course it is the cme (coronal mass emission) and associated solar activity which is giving us those auroras. That amount of radiation and electro magnetism always affects me. It looks beautiful, I should think, but it affects all plasma and lots of other things as well. Scary actually, I hate the earth being bombarded like this0
