For all those with cars, if you don't have roadside cover I would definately recommend it. The bigger companies cost £28 for the year which I always grudged paying until I buckled my wheel hitting a pothole on a freezing cold february night and couldn't get the wheel off. I don't know what I would have done without it and it's something I will now never be without.

    Morning preppers

She was talking about wind-up torches and I realised we could do with one in the car. I remember someone saying they got theirs at Mr T, is that right and if so, where are they in the shop-sorry but I find it hard to walk round supermarkets :o TIA

    Hi
Boots are also selling them as part of their Xmas gifts - whoops just checked the price and they are £10 - gulp. They are part of the 3 for 2 range so if you are stuck for a third gift it may come in handy!!

PS Keep meaning to say a huge thanks for all the lists made on the part 2 thread as I have been slowly making my way through them and doing jobs I would not of thought of in readiness for the Winter

Cold here overnight-- frosts every night now. This past week it has been damp and cool, but this weekend it is supposed to be high 70's-80F (25-27C). Have been very snuggly and warm in my flannel sheets and down duvet at night. Love it and hate to pull myself out of bed every morning. My weekday start time (alarm clock going off) can vary from 4:30am until 7am, but dogs do not understand that and would like it to be 4:30 every morning so they can have their breakfasts. Of course, then they get to lay around all day like slugs while I'm forced to work!

Have made two trips to the store this week and have returned with 12 boxes of instant oatmeal (on a sale) for OH and 6 large cans of free tomatoes (as well as other items). I ordered oatmeal coupons from eBay and they have not arrived yet. Hopefully they while come in today's mail. Sale ends tomorrow and I would like to get another 12 boxes before then:D. Can't have OH going without his oatmeal in the am. He eats it year 'round and is picky about the brand and flavor-- nothing else will do for Mr. Picky Eater.

We have been running the heat overnight for the past 2 weeks. Have not had a fire yet. Probably won't for a week or more since warm temps are predicted. OH will work on the yard today and I plan to shampoo the family room carpet this morning. I have to go in to work around 3 pm today and work the weekend as well. We have a holiday Monday and Tuesday for Columbus Day (thank goodness!)

I am going to probably put the heating on tonight and also next week I shall put the flannelette sheets on the bed as well. The thing is last night I had cold feet so when I went to be the rest of me felt cold. I warmed up and then woke up warm but even so, I hate flipping cold feet.

Two loads of washing out the line which has had to be brought in, in between the showers!!!

Hope you are diddly doodling along okay. I am just going to finish off my last bit of sewing and thats it knocked off my list.

today i did a load of laundry and put it out on the line, better enjoy that free facility as much as i can it won't last much longer

i also hung my daughters full length suede coat out on the line on a hanger and used two clothes pegs to hold the hanger still, i gave it 3 very good coats of suede protector and did her fake ugg boots with 2 coats so now those are done and ready to wear

i'll be putting up bubble wrap in the bathroom and both bedroom windows this weekend and hopefully you won't really be able to tell what it is as we're on the first floor, if it's really obvious i'll not put it on mine as mine could be seen from the street/pavements but my daughters room is barely overlooked so i don't care what anyone thinks about that one (and her room is coldest too)

still need to put the bubblewrap in the front door but that won't take very long

it's a little nippy here today, yesterday i was interested to see that whilst the temperature was 9C the realfeel was only 1C  it's not quite so different now at 12C temp and 10C realfeel

i haven't been tempted to put on the heaters yet though if it dips really low one day this week i'll try out the living room heater to make sure it's working properly and save trying the hall heater for another cold day

i have started stocking up my freezer with some really yummy bacon and lentil soup i made yesterday, gotta do somehting with the 25kg bag i ordered from approved foods :rotfl:

No heating on here yet, but DH had made a small log fire when I got home from work yesterday. Have to report the winter quilt is on the bed (because the dog was sick and it went through the dog-proof cover I put on, through the quilt cover and on to the quilt). Had to wash that lot last night and change the bed over. Saving flannelette sheets and under-quilt until it gets "proper" cold.

I thought I had done quite well with preps, but am now sadly behind. Must do this weekend - door curtain for porch, set winter salad etc. in greenhouse I cleared out last weekend, change sandals/boots and t.shirts/jumpers around etc. I washed all the winter stuff a bit back and put it away, so I now need to find it and put it in the wardrobes. That is alongside DD and 3 kids visiting Saturday (for several hours and dinner) and taking my Dad chestnutting on sunday morning if weather half way reasonable.

Gone very quickly from smug to panic as time seems to be going quicker than I am.

I got three of my plants in this afternoon, they are an Olea tree which is mediteranean and two spikey palm plants as well, which will die in a frost. I planted those up this afternoon and they are sitting in the conservatory and front porch. This will protect them through the winter as they will be protected from harsh frosts.

Time is marching on now, the last thing I need to look at is the cordylines to put away but I shall do that next week. There is nothing urgent left on the list on other than the butchers and that is being done next Wednesday. After that it's mainly car stuff.

grn.w.nv sometimes a really thick velvet/velour or heavy brocade curtain will be substantial enough to keep out the draughts. If you need to silicone over places it might be worth doing to keep out the draughts. You can check, ideal time right now, with a incense stick as the direction of the smoke will tell you how strong the draught is!
