They are great for moving out a drive / parking space / car park / traffic lights & pretty much starting off anywhere in the ice & snow.

You start the car & go to move off as normal (forward or reverse) but don't touch your accelerator pedel (at all ... not even a teeeeny bit:)).

Just use your clutch and once you get to the "bite" keep letting out slowly - and the car will move off!

Once you're moving, you can move into another gear and gently accelerate.

It's great as no matter how hard you try, it's so easy to touch the accelator just a bit too much and you slide all over the place - as it's a gentle, very slow start off with the car doing all the work, you've much more chance of getting going!:)

Great advice - thanks so much - I will def be trying this - when and if I get my car back.
mardatha - dark, lashing rain, sleet and wind here, can I enjoy your white world by proxy?

Woke up to a white world ! :j:j:j

Well, that gave me the kick up the bum I needed to stop watching films, get off the sofa (in front of the fire, snuggly warm under a throw and a couple of pusses) and DO SOMETHING!

So, I've now cleaned the oven, poured "stuff" down plug holes to clear them, finished lagging the last few inches of piping I can actually see in the kitchen and bathroom (most of the piping is hidden unfortunately), and ordered a camping lamp £25 . Better have at least a couple of good long powercuts to justify that one but I really could have done with it the other night. I've also written the Xmas cards...hallelujah!

I was thinking of sweeping up leaves but the fire and sofa are calling me again, and it's MUCH too cold outside to stir. So that's on next weekend's list...yeh, yeh...:rotfl:

    Keep warm everyone.

OK .... list going reasonably well:
    [STRIKE]
    • The garage that was beautifully cleared out has somehow managed to 1/2 fill itself again:rotfl: :naughty: so looks like muggins here will have to sort it out again;) so I can get the car in
    [/STRIKE]
    • Find somewhere "sensible" to put the snow shovel (in garage which will be useless once it snows .....) struggling with this one ......as don't really want it in the house
    • [STRIKE]Put more bird food out (fat balls / blocks - have been holding off on these until it got really cold) & top off feeders[/STRIKE]have made some HM things - was going quite well until I knocked the tub over & had mealworms all over the worktop:eek: - they're in the fridge setting ....
    • [STRIKE]Check tyre pressures / fill washer bottle with stronger screen wash (topped fuel up today:))[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]
    • Check emergency car kit (folding snow shovel lives in car & there are def gloves, hat, scarf, socks, wellies, waterproof trousers & jacket in there - need to find the spare sleeping bag.....)[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Attach fleece lining to winter coat (this is fab as I can wear it without the fleece in autumn but it is also fanastic once it gets really cold)Will probably be back to add things later .....:o[/STRIKE]

Glad to be back inside ..... a measly 2.1 deg out there just now:eek:
So happy I've sorted the garage out ... but the house now looks a tip as most of it's in here now:(. Stuff piled up everywhere & 16 bottles of water sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor and nowhere to put them:o

Think I've created a cat litter mountain (as well as a loo roll one):rotfl:currently have 100 Litres in bags in the wee room & the bucket is full (25L), still have around 60 L in the garage .... as well as the 100L emergency stash!

  • I was going to pop to The Fort today but decided it might be better first thing on a weekday morning that a Sunday

You must be roughly in the same vicinity as me (as much as that means in rural terms IYKWIM:)) - the Fort's the nearest place for shops for me ... around 25 miles.

TBH it was pretty quiet yesterday lunchtime (was surprised as usually much busier this time of year) - I arrived at 10 am on the dot this morning as only wanted to go to one shop (went to Mr A first) and wanted to get home ASAP in case more snow came. Was quiet then but there was a fair bit of traffic heading towards town as I was travelling back.

Art - we're near here: http://www.flashbarstores.co.uk/. See webcam. However it is easing off a bit having blizzarded like mad for a while. Temperature has gone up by a degree in the past few minutes.

It is seven degrees outside, but it does feel much colder because of the wind, which is still fairly breezy. On the flip side I was able to get two loads of washing nearly dry on the line and finished off in the tumble dryer and I have not long had a shower so the bathroom window is open to let the steam out, which means that in an hour or so I can shut it in there without it causing condensation - hopefully.

We have today put all the peanuts out in the feeders (there are eight feeders around the garden) a seed one, three fat ball holders and another hanger full of black seed hearts. The birds have not long found them :) We will now keep them topped up until late spring next next year.

Heating is now on timed and the candles (Yankee- cherries on snow and Christmas Rose) are lit and glowing away. It gets dark so early now it's a bit depressing but I am looking forward to getting Christmas out of the way and then the gradual transition of the days getting longer.
