Re fleece in jacket - you've just reminded me that I've put one of those timberland fleece lined jackets in charity bag - too big for me now and was getting rid of all my 'fat' clothes - will take it out and put it in car - when I get car - it's being getting fixed for this last 6 weeks and I just knew all along that it wouldn't be ready 'til the snow and frost is here and I won't be able to go anywhere anyway as I live on an ungritted steep hill.
Spent yesterday evening hunting down cracks/gaps in floorboards and filling with bubble wrap/draught excluder tape and then colouring in tape with furniture marker! I felt a great sense of vistory with each gap. Probably should get out more.

Yup, here too ...:( but thankfully not lying a lot yet (am I the only one who hates it?)

Honestly, if I didn't have to go anywhere I'd love it but ...... there's a huge hill I have to go up & down to get anywhere and it's terrible in the winter. :(

However, I will admit it was lovely seeing the hills all snowy:)

Made a very quick dash up to Edinburgh to get DM's Christmas pressie (we went yesterday and when I got home she said "oh, I wish I'd bought ....." grrrrr - nevermind, all got now & safely home!)

I popped into the big Mr As and nearly came a cropper on the hill getting in (90 deg turn, short steep hill and another 90 deg turn at the top) so had a bit of a dicey moment there - only been driving again for 3 weeks so still getting used to the "changes" in my foot.

Got some bottles of still water - realised last night that I have loads of sparkling (which I drink) but that'll be pretty useless for the kettle!

Also got some lard so am going to try making some HM bird blocks with seed etc - that should keep me occupied for a while!

If anyone makes these - how long do they keep for & how do you store them? TIA

Did practice my "non accelerator starts" in Mr A car park and then at the Fort - pleased to say it still works!:)

Don't think I'll be going out again today so must get onto sorting the garage out!

    We have had snow too...

What is a 'non accelerator start'? We live in the country on top of a hill and get the snow and ice quite badly, so any useful tips would be much appreciated.

I am going to get my Christmas food in today. We don't have turkey but get something different every year so think we'll go with a big beef roast or something. Have done my Christmas shopping, thanks to this thread I'm as prepared as I can be without going overboard (you know, when you think about something so much it takes over all your thoughts) and that's me, it can snow as much as it likes.

I was going to pop to The Fort today but decided it might be better first thing on a weekday morning that a Sunday

    Enjoy the snow everyone :j

They are great for moving out a drive / parking space / car park / traffic lights & pretty much starting off anywhere in the ice & snow.

You start the car & go to move off as normal (forward or reverse) but don't touch your accelerator pedel (at all ... not even a teeeeny bit:)).

Just use your clutch and once you get to the "bite" keep letting out slowly - and the car will move off!

Once you're moving, you can move into another gear and gently accelerate.

It's great as no matter how hard you try, it's so easy to touch the accelator just a bit too much and you slide all over the place - as it's a gentle, very slow start off with the car doing all the work, you've much more chance of getting going!:)

it's 3C here and a real feel of -3C, forecast is for rain and snow, my daughter is so excited and wants to go play in it if it shows up, tried to tell her that the rain would be miserable but she's having none of it and has said she'll put her raincoat over her winter coat and take her umbrella if necessary :rotfl:

bless the innocent love and joy of snow :p
