  • While on the subject of lightbulbs, I have a rented eco house from a local housing asociation, the lightbulbs are a nightmare, money saving supposedly, however they are a bayonet fitting but have 3 prongs instead of 2, does anyone know where I can get these, the normal hardware stores dont have them, so only lighting half the house.
Starting to look like wee willy winky after 8pm.

Only got as far as your post so someone may have suggested where to get them. I've got the same in my housing association house, so many people complained to our HA, that they now have them at the HA offices. There are a couple of places in my town you can get them but Errant Husband always got them, so I don't know if they do delivery... And as I'm in Suffolk, they'd be a bit far for you to go! I'd try getting the HA to find out where near you stocks them (why use your time/money contacting local electrical suppliers?) since they put them in.

Or, my next-door neighbour has taken them out & replaced with ordinary light fittings, but he's not supposed to have done that...

    Hi

We got a fleecy under blanket today, £7.99 from Poundstretchers :-) We have a freezing cold bedroom, three exposed walls, and one wall is very exposed, and our bed is cold. So I'm looking forward to a snuggly bed tonight :-) We can't have insulation put in the walls because the previous owners had it done, but it's not very good, and has broken up :-( I was wondering if I made some rugs that are wall hangings, whether they would help keep the chill off ?????

    A work in progress :D

have a look at annie's post on the Preparing for winter thread, about window quilts and wall hangings, basically anything against a cold wall would be an improvement :)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • OK... slight panic setting in as snow forecast for tomorrow / Monday:eek::( so I need to write down what I must do tomorrow as everything seems to have slid a bit lately...

    • The garage that was beautifully cleared out has somehow managed to 1/2 fill itself again:rotfl: :naughty: so looks like muggins here will have to sort it out again;) so I can get the car in
    • Find somewhere "sensible" to put the snow shovel (in garage which will be useless once it snows .....)
    • Check tyre pressures / fill washer bottle with stronger screen wash (topped fuel up today:))
    • Check emergency car kit (folding snow shovel lives in car & there are def gloves, hat, scarf, socks, wellies, waterproof trousers & jacket in there - need to find the spare sleeping bag.....)
    • Put more bird food out (fat balls / blocks - have been holding off on these until it got really cold) & top off feeders
    • Attach fleece lining to winter coat (this is fab as I can wear it without the fleece in autumn but it is also fanastic once it gets really cold)
Will probably be back to add things later .....:o

Have got my new fleecy pj's on tonight ... lovely & warm so far:)

To be minus 8 on Wed night up here... keep cosy!
  • Oh No is it really Mardatha - minus 8 - I think I am near you so we could be much the same here - ok here's a question for you all - I go into hospital on tuesday and if as Mardatha says we get minus 8 type temps do I leave my room doors open or closed - open and let the warm air circulate or closed to keep it in each room?

My heating will be on in the morning for a couple of hours and maybe 3 in the evening

    toots xx
    Peace will be mine

Yes 10 years after is right. 10 years leading up to it and another 10  so 20 in all

I used a chillow, it was great

    http://www.chillow.co.uk/2010/template/

even now I still have to fling an arm and a leg out of bed at night on occasions and I am 63 but otherwise, all gone :D

The house has cooled down quite a bit so I have had to have the stove on. I am doing a cupboard inventory today, all the foods I cannot see in a below worktop space. Anything I can use to make an easy meal will be listed, as will all the odds and sods in there. I have to start using stored stuff now or spring will come and I`ll have no space to build a store for winter 2012 :)
