:j It's been snowing on and off here for a wee while but too wet to lie on the ground it's currently 3 deg C and more snow, sleet and hail forecast for rest of today. So it looks as though Winter is finally on it's way.

weather is on course but slower coming

a bit of a link, remember that he is a genius so quirky and it takes a bit of reading
    http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=394&c=5

so incredibly accurate most of the time, he predicted all that fog. I have the print out from mid november

re winter feelings: I am on the d`action trial and have to send blood every 6 months. I need 7000 units from autumn to spring and 5000 all through summer. Dh needs 5000 all year around. Cheapest from iherb.com and you need the cholicalciferol type of D. More info about D from grassroots
    http://www.grassrootshealth.net/
I couldn`t live without my biobulbs and honestly I feel zingy all the time

re winter bright spots, I am making mincemeat today as it is always good for a tasty tart in winter or baked apple stuffing. Delia recipe. Later I will marzipan the cake. Tomorrow I will try and get through a load of my stored spuds, which look as though they will sprout soon. I`ll be roasting lots and open freezing then packing in bags. Also cheesy potato boats, open freezing etc They all cook beautifully after

temperature for us is minimum 19 and range is 19-21 downstairs only

waitrose free delivery today including croissants and special beer for dh for christmas, also some smoked salmon now in freezer. Fiasco last year and I`m not risking it this year so am ready foodwise and not a turkey in sight for once

Thanks for the info on D, Kittie. I think I might have a word with my GP and ask her to test my levels. I am really surprised how much better I feel on Vit D! Imagine if I doubled my dose :rotfl: Which I might well do ;)

Confuzzled - thermometer arrived today at moment showing 9.8C outside, chilly but sunny, and boy 20.5C in my room - , yet no heat is on at all anywhere in house and back door is open for the dogs and best of all gives me the humidity which at moment is 53% . I have noticed since bubble wrapping most of the windows that rooms are a bit warmer, in my room window is made up of 20 small windows so have bubble wrapped the middle 16 just leaving two on each side for me to see out - not that much to see just front garden and main road, but handy to see if anyone delivering when dogs start barking as if its just postman or someone putting a leaflet through don't have to go down straight away.

I wanted to get two them but for some reason basket kept defaulting to one so bought a different one from another firm that also arrived but not put it in place yet - it only shows indoor temp and humidity so will put it downstairs ( our old thermometers seem to have given up the ghost - just the old fashioned circular type not battery).

Oh sun has gone in and outside temp has just taken a nose dive to 7.6 I have put almost the full sensor wire outside so if there is a bit of wind it will move away from the side of the house so as to get a truer reading.

I must look into what humidity should be in the house, and see if that enviro-vent thing is working well. Its dropped to 52% now.

We keep our thermostat on 18 - mind you that is its default as try as we may we cannot change it, and it is working its just us not being able to translate the awful and tiny instructions, keep meaning to get engineer out as heating still under as only guarantee been in 2 1/2 years. Most times that keeps house warm enough - although when back door open and temp outside low heating will come on even though house is warm enough as thermostat in hall and cold air comes in through back door as nothing to stop it. I know should let dogs out when they ask but me being upstairs so much its easier to leave it open rather than me stuggle to get down to let them out as of course they never all go out at same time - one goes out, comes in and 5 mins later another wants out, the fun of owning 3 dogs ( used to be 4 but sadly Judy died over 5 years ago)

PipneyJane thanks for the wool links - I have seen Lidl advertise wool but as we live miles away by the time we usually get there, next day or day after they usually are sold out, had heard of Black Sheep but only glanced at their website and seen high prices so not investigated further, will do now as need that black wool.

Well its started pouring here and temp dropping down below 7 now so definitely urg - have put on overhead light with the biobulb now, yet an hour ago sunshine was so bright ( even through bubble wrap ) I didn't need a light on.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Really Turgin? Wow, i'll try that. THANKYOU.

Living room is coldest, about 12 now with no heating on. BUT I've all upstairs windows open to air the house as it's a dry day. It's working :). Downstairs humidity is 70. Too high but ok.

USA web pages say 35% - 50 RH. UK says 45% - 60 RH ideal inside. So it's hard to say. Air circulation is Very important, even in quite a dry room mould can grow in stagnant corners. I'm a heritage professional, paperwork needs a RH of c.50% to stay normal, not moldy, not cracking. If I can get the house to c60% RH i'll be happy.

So our winter prep was going so well, but now hit a Huge speed bump I couldn't have foreseen. i'm wobbling, but will be back straight again soon. That's the only way to think isn't it? Harumph.

(boiler in our rental property has died. Management company doing their best but am not convinced a replacement is best. I'm mend and repair kind of girl. Even replacement can't be done till wed. So feel awful for our tenant.

Keep repeating... Even a new boiler is cheaper than what we'd have had to loose to sell it.

FRUGAL - stay at 3000iu, the ideal optimium dose is 2400iu. Get the doc to check you once every 6 months. But ask for the actual reading then look it up on the net. I started on it for my ME a couple of years ago, and when I started my level was 52. Its now 156 so it does rise but slowly. My gp said 52 was "fine" and is still saying 156 is "fine" :rotfl::rotfl:I wonder if they have a clue sometimes.
I want these biobulbs, I need them. Can you get them to fit wee table lamps ? What size would I buy for that ?

PipneyJane - Thanks for infor re: Lidl on wool - we have a localish one, so I'll keep an eye out.

Prepareathome - my three are 4, 8 and 10. The younger two still happily wear my creations, the older one will because it's Harry potter related! Although she did ask me to make her an aran waistcoat thing today!! Fingers crossed for hubbys job and don't get too obsessed with your new thermometer :rotfl:(I want one now!)

Jamanda - our heating kicks in at 15 degrees, but that is fairly chilly tbh. That's why I'm making them all jumpers for Christmas :D
  • Promise I won't "go on" as this isn't the place but I just had to say "thanks" for all the lovely words and support .....
