fingers crossed prepareathome, that your hubby is spared from the cuts.

Just heard of a young family that have 4 kiddies under 7 (two boys and twin girls), that the hubby has been made redundant with immediate effect - business folded - fingers crossed he gets something soon, christmas will be a hard one as the mum only works part-time.

  • "Prepare"......Sorry to hear about your hubby's possible redundancy, here's to hoping that someone else is plucked from the pot, however, am sure everyone there is sitting on eggshells.
I am sure your hubby appreciates you even more, knowing that you you have sorted food stocks and everything is prepared, you should feel very proud of yourself that you have everything possible taken care of as far as looking after your family at times like this.:)

Rising - so sorry for your loss. I find that as soon as a dog comes to live with us I start worrying about losing them.

Prepared - fingers crossed for you, and well done on your preps.

I know I'd posted saying thanks but I got one for DD and her BF this evening. Had a text to say that it's really warmed up the flat and that their staffy pup loves it as well. He'd plonked himself in front of it-lols
abwsco and anyone else that got the halogen heater from Dunelm - they have been recalled

I was very lucky in that when my children were small in the 1980's real wool was still cheap so I would spend all summer knitting their woolies in real wool for the winter, it became a tradition in the family that the first time they wore them was bonfire night as it was my night off and hubby would take all over 2 ( sounds like I had hundreds, I had 3) out to see firework display and then go to Maccies ( was a big treat then as was so expensive way back). In winter I would start knitting the lightweight woolies for spring and summer. That all stopped once they reached teenage years and would not be seen in HM. Grandchildren are dressed by Next etc as HM except hats, mitts and scarves are not chic. My 12 year old GD has asked me to knit her a hat in black with a white scull on it eeks and she likes black nail varnish, have we a goth in the making. So got to look online and order some black wool, and as she is older will knit it in real wool as part of her Christmas present - an excuse to buy real wool :rotfl:

You can still buy good quality "real" wool quite cheaply, if you know where to look. Lidl occasionally has wool - the last time I saw any was August, when they were selling a 100% pure wool chunky in packs of 4 for £5. Lovely stuff - I knitted a jumper out of it in September. I think Lidl's current offering is 100% cotton aran varigated yarn, but keep an eye out because they do offer others but supply is unpredictable.

Also, have you looked online? My favourite place, both for price and their customer service, is Black Sheep. They're a clicks and mortar shop and they the Knit and Stitch Shows. They always have 50g balls of pure wool for £2.50 or less. (The link is to their sale pages.)
Bought some sturdy storage containers today, 50L ones with lids to store the flour in and phew was right size as self raising now its been opened is in there sack and all, I doubt I will store it in there without the sack. Only bought two ( 2 for £10 and £5.99 each) so will buy more on Saturday. Son now under orders to price the sugar that comes in 25kg sacks, I at moment can buy it for 79kg so will see what price his firm says.

Where did your source your containers? Are they water tight, air tight and critter tight? The largest ones I can find that match those three criteria are Lock'n'Lock boxes, which hold about 5kg of flour each. Nothing can get in there.

A question to the Board in general: is it worth buying separate flours? I only buy 10kg bags of Atta Flour/Chappatti flour and use it for everything, since that's the cheapest flour I can get. (I have a huge tub of baking powder that I add to make it self raising.)
