Maybe keep 3 or 4 bottles which is only for myself. Just a thought even if only to flush the loo now and again when bottled water turns up!
HTH:), I posted a few pages back so may have been missed by some:rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »May I make a suggestion on the water front - living somewhere where we go through spells of having frequent cuts, I've unfortunately got a lot of experience:(
Put some away for flushing toilets - refilling used pop bottles with tap water is best (as you can't get them confused with "proper" water) I keep a stash in the garage.
Also, people with certain medical conditions can be added to the water companies "essential users" list which should mean you get some delivered immediately if there's a cut.
In reality, this service is pretty poor - whenever I've called on it, I've been given 1 or 2 bottles (which wouldn't even fill a cistern once!) at best. Also, when you ring, you usually get the "it'll be a couple of hours so don't worry" speak... the last one we had went on for over 57 hours - and I only got my "priority" water 2 hours before it was turned back on!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Oh toooooo funny but good idea - I like the idea of actually putting the bucket in the loo - would probably have to be a kids large sandcastle bucket tho as my B&Q buckets wouldn't fit
Thats the DDs again abandoning dinner to come and look at what I am laughing at
They think I am laughing at the smilies :rotfl:
Why the chalk type of litter?0 -

I have found some one local who will deliver cat food, not tried them yet as I suspect they don't do Pro Plan duck and rice (Sandy's favourite) but they say they will deliver all weathers also food for me if I can't get out in the snow :j So I may wait for the snow to try them out as I am stocking up at the moment with food for fur babies and me:)
LOL, they can be the fussiest "so and so's":D
Have ordered it- I'd rather be set for right through winter as it costs a fortune to buyas the pet shop often only has wee bags which work out at £85 for the size I'm getting:eek:.
It won't go to waste (unlike the wet which they're very fussy about) - can fit into my pet budget this month and I'll now have enough of both types to last until July(ish) which will help the budget next year.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Love the loo ideas! I volunteer festivals and go 'tatting' for stuff once the campers have left. in recent years those huge catering mayo tubs with lids have been quite popular!
At one very eco festival I've seen a toilet block made from a row of wheelie bins, some scaffold poles and planks and some ply sheets for privacy!
At our old house the shed at the end of the garden still had most of a toilet in it. Shame the shed lad lost it's room and 2 walls!:rotfl:

what do you think are the most important things to do to prepare for snow?
I live in walking distance of local shops and the city centre, have a woodburner in one room, an open fire in the other (downstairs) and central heating for when it gets really cold!
I have a large bottle of water stashed and loads of food, tins and pulses etc. It's just me, my 8 year old and the mice :-)0 -

I'd say a lot of that is scaremongering hokum. It will be winter. It will get cold. It may be as bad as last year. Think about where u live, how u live, where u need to get. Think about you neighbors. Be prepared.
But I am intrigued to see it recommends 21oC in day and 16 at night. We're at 14.4 right now and are quite warm! Barely a thought of a blanket, let alone the heating!!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I wonder if anybody knows the answer to this...
I am concerned that the fact I have such good loft insulation and the house is generally really, really well insulated, does that put my pipe work in the loft in danger? I assume the answer is yes... However, since I now have an open fire, and therefore clearly a chimney, will the heat from the chimney keep the loft warm enough for the pipes not to freeze?
Puzzling.....0 -

During the day at the most we have it is about 20 degrees, it gets warmer if we have the log burner on, but thats about max for us, we drop it down to 17 degrees before we go to bed. Having said that this was when it was at it's worst when we had the heating on 24/7.
We also went for many years without snow at all or only a mere smattering and not enough to make a snowball or cause disruption that we have seen these last three years. In 2003 the situation across the country was terrible, rain fell, the roads froze and turned into an ice rink and it took people who normally do a 10 minute or so journey to have a six hour car jam. Luckily I was at home when that happened, but a colleague did not get home until 11.30pm.
I think we are going to get a dumping of the white stuff, whether it will be pronlonged such as the last two years - I don't know, but allot of us on here are prepared for pretty much the worst of it. It's those who are not who will bring everything around us in chaos!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
