LOL me too going off topic... lilme, your signature is utterly charming! :A

Actually, not quite off topic, because a cat on one's lap is very warming. :D

I tried one of those last year (got it from h*lfords) and it froze to the windscreen. It was a nightmare to get off. I was worried that it would damage the car. Eventually I managed to get it off but I would have been much quicker deicing the car than using it. Needles to say it went in the bin.

Humm, I did wonder... We'll have to see. I can go 4 days without having to use the car since I had my hours cut, so hoped it would stop the think layer of re-frozen ice.
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!
  • all using de-icer, as an avid car fan please dont get it on the seals around your windows, it rots them and they are costly to replace!

i wont use it, no matter what!

Got a car windscreen ice protector from pound land, after I'd found a reflective one, also £1.00. I'm interested to see how it will work, looks like it as sucker cups for rapping round to the side windows.

I've got one - it's great for when it's snowing or really frosty/icy but don't use it if it's likely to rain before the frost comes .....

Made a huge pan of apple sauce from fallen apples today, shall freeze in baby food tubs for having with porridge over winter.

OH was out last night so i put down the draft excluders and could really feel a difference at the back door :) . Also put a fleece blanket over the sofa seat which is helping. It's a second hand leather sofa we recently got from the inlaws and I didn't realize how very cold it is to sit on.

Mummy brought round a bag of cooking apples last night, so I'll borrow your idea & cook them all up & freeze in small amounts for porridge, and resist making a huge apple crumble that we gobble up in one sitting :o We were out in my parents' car on Saturday and it's got leather seats - they are freezing at this time of year!

We get issued ice spikes at work that attach to our shoes, trouble is they don't last very long. The spikes tend to fall out after a few days. We used to have the chains issued but they were very dangerous especially when delivering to houses that had quarry tiles on the steps or in porches(ice rink). I will still use the spikes but need decent footwear tbh.

I saw on the old preparing for winter thread about using cable ties to fix round footwear (or buggy wheels) to stop slipping - apparently, you could leave them on all the time as they weren't enough to damage flooring though enough to help with grip? Got the cotton traders boots for DS1 (resisted any for me as I do have several different boots now...) and either his feet have grown a couple of sizes since September (quite possible & I'll be dragging his feet to Clarks for a measure this week) or they didn't come up that big on him. They do look warm and have good treads so I'm glad we got them.

I'm all pleased with myself as I now have two new pairs of shoes that are suitable both for work and for walking home in bad weather. I'm an absolute nightmare when it comes to shoes, so this is very good indeed. I can't help with snowboots, as I have been using the same pair for the past three years or so and these were a gift. They're great but I'm glad I also bought wintertrax to keep on hand.

I also got a good bit of Christmas shopping started, especially small items to go with main presents for friends and extended family members.

I didn't get a new coat. I've not put on weight or gone up a size in anything else so it's puzzling as to why I suddently can't find one that fits across the chest area (that isn't massive elsewhere). I do have others I can use, just not long ones that would really help should I be stranded on a train platform in the middle of nowhere at the worst time.

Had an email from cotton traders (since I bought boots from them!) & they've got a longer fleece lined coat half price at £30 at the moment http://www.cottontraders.co.uk/invt/ad10662?promo_set=jhxs&utm_campaign=9718742&utm_content=82820101120&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Emailvision It's not massively long, but longer than many! I'm not sure if it's waterproof though, so am resisting it for now...
  • Asda have long sleeved thermal vests for six quid. It is lovely and warm but you might need a size bigger than your usual as the fit is a little snug. And they don't have those horrible scratchy labels inside that drive me to madness.

We had a break in in our street this weekend so i'm going to fit a light by the front door to deter anyone from hanging around near my house.

I have just had slabs laid over the quarry tiles on my front door step which should be less slippery in the winter.

And the ceilings are being prepped for skimming... Which has revealed plenty of problems!

Put the old bobbly flannelette-type sheet (Not sure if it's real or not lol) over the mattresse protector but under the normal cotton fitted sheet over the weekend, I've also put my single size electric blanket across the foot of the double bed for feet warming!!
