Got a car windscreen ice protector from pound land, after I'd found a reflective one, also £1.00. I'm interested to see how it will work, looks like it as sucker cups for rapping round to the side windows.
Chirpy chick - I used your list as a basis for mine, and although I deleted the bits I didn't need, some stuck in my mind... I bought 2 bras today!! Did need some sometime, but saw asda sale and 2 for £3.00 was too good an offer, esp as my size is not usually in sales. Thanks!
They didn't have any shoe gripper wotsits or shovels though.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Curtain + pole up !! (via hole in one wall and bracket the other wall, so secure!)
Q. If I can get some bargain curtain linings (but I need 66 x 90 inch, thermal ideal for winter and summer) How does one attach?? The ones I've seen seem to have pencil pleat tops, but my curtains are ring top for a pole.
Think Argos had some on clearance but can't search by store now. Current catalogue ones 66 x 70.0 -
Bought 3 prs Hot Headz no slip ice grip cleats for shoes (like the Yaktrax) today at a closeout website. Unfortunately they do not have the top strap, but were such a good price I thought I'd give them a try anyway. Our driveway is rather steep and getting to the bottom can be an adventure on an icy day. Only one size (my size) was on special offer, so I didn't get any for OH-- but he has good boots. One more thing to cross off the list.0

last year i slit a jiffy bag (one of the bubble wrap lined ones) id wrapped bubblewrap around the tap and held it in place with elastic bands the i hooked the jiffybag over the top and held that on with more bands, DH uses the tap wekly when washing the car so it was a bit fiddly removeing and replacng the bubblewrap and jiffy eac time but hte tap never froze once. i know you can get proper little tie on coers from catalouges like bettawear etc but havent had experience of using one of those. hth
Thanks I will do that, spend enough lately, more than I should have as have now a wedding to go to in Oz in March 2014 ( son been good making wedding then to give us all time to save up, but I admit I am not a saver, ok never had money to save but have to do so now, as I must be at the wedding of my oldest son).
Reading all the posts I think I have covered just about everything, am sure there must be something I have not thought of or forgotten, maybe some more tinned veg as not that much, and hubby has agreed tomorrow to put the winter screen wash in, one of his friends was telling him how this winter is meant to be harsh and how he was getting car ready for it. Why did he listen to a friend and not me, mind you at doctors other week with him and doctor sat there and gave him exact same advice I had been doing for years, and he listened to her, although he did tell her I had told him the exact same, men.......
Am knitting a hat for him, will knit a few I hope and then granddaughter has asked for a couple - two weeks ago she told me will not wear hats as its not cool, then today asked for some as her ears have been cold - teenagers ( well she is 12).
Now searching around for something to stuff the draught excluder - I gave all my old blankets and sheets away to dogs home a few weeks ago and we actually haven't had any missing socks for a few years so not sure what I can use, any ideas anyone?
Thanks you wonderful people :jNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Welcome to the thread LilyMae. I'm sorry to hear about your husband and the tough time you've been going through. I'm sure you've been welcomed here so warmly that you know that support, practical and otherwise, is at your fingertips whenever you need it.
Winter preparations are still no further forward. I've been being social and have also been getting things organised for Christmas. I haven't actually bought that much but I've devised all my strategies and shopping lists, which is just as important because my working hours between now and Christmas and Christmas and Easter just seem to get longer and longer! Luckily, the holidays from work at Christmas/New Year do fall quite nicely and it might even feel like a break this year rather than a mad rush.
Today I've made stew in the slow cooker and some soup. I've managed to get ridof more of the ice cream in the freezer (mostly bought in the hope of nice summery weather back in June!) and some portions of both have now taken its place.

A new winter lesson learned...
Don't buy just one snuggie!
You need a second one for the cat!
I just got mine out yesterday since the temperature in the house is hovering at 14°C but every time that I take it off, no matter where I put it - Sally, my cat, will find it and curl up on it for a nap. Then she complains bitterly when I try to shift her off it.
I'm seriously considering changing her name from Sally to Cooking Fat.
Actually, a second one might be a good idea anyway - one on, one in the wash. Otherwise it's do without while washing and drying, or use the tumble drier to get it back quickly. Molly - when you say you bubble wrapped the doors do you just mean sticking it onto the glass panels or have you covered the whole door and if you have how did you stick it on please?
I have bubble wrapped a door that I wont use until spring as it is a juliet type balcony and not an escape route or anything. Even if it was it would be easy to pull down as it is taped with masking tape across the top (above the door) and then one whole piece is like a curtain - ruche d up at the sides and again fixed to the bottom with masking tape. It is not fixed at the sides but the extra width is gathered into the door frame and sits nicely.
I will try and post a picture later as I dont think my explanation is very clear!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Think Argos had some on clearance but can't search by store now. Current catalogue ones 66 x 70.
We have some eyelet curtains. I bought linings with the header tape but got some more curtain rings that had clips on them as well. They were 99p from B & M's. I always think I'm useless at explaining things but here goes. This assumes you can take your pole down easily.
Took the original curtains off the pole and laid them on floor. Laid linings on top of these. We then threaded pole through first eyelet of curtain then put a couple of curtain rings with clip on the pole and clipped them to the lining. Then put curtain pole through next eyelet of curtain. Then put more rings with clip on the pole and attached to lining and repeat above all the way along the curtain.
Hope that makes sense and that it helps. Did take us a while as our curtains are 90 x 90.0 -
Just wanted to say that by turning off the gas fueled radiator in our bedroom and turned on the new electric £15 750W radiator it has made our room toasty. The best thing is it's on a thermostat so only comes on when the rad thinks it's needed.
I'm going to do an electric reading later but I know what ever that reading is it will be better than the huge gas bills were used to with trying to heat a generous sized bedroom on a small radiator in the bay window.
I am also in the process of altering a large throw. I want to add hooks to the top of it to hang over a wooden archway we have in the living room. It's a large living room with the large archway into the dining room. It is a large space to heat and really, when I'm in the house by myself or on an evening we can hook this up and just heat the living room space. I think it will help immensely, although asthetically look really daft. Needs must!0 -
Morning all
Emptied one of the water butts yestereday (used the water to water in the new shrubs I planted out, all home nurtured from self seeds).
Cut grass possibly for the last time.
Ebay stuff selling well.
DS2 clothes sorted and list made of what he needs (a lot!)
Today I want DH to look at the Front door to see if we can draft exclude it and I shall sort DS3's clothes. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
