  • Did you brother ask about an exchange instead of a refund?

If he pops back and has a word with the manager and asks if he can return the phone and pay extra for a more expensive one (providing that they have one in stock), they may well be more likely to allow it.

It has been a while since I knew the CEX refund policy so they may have changed it.

Change of mind - No they won't take it back. If it is working then the only thing you could do is sell it back to them. 50% loss if you take cash and 25% loss if you take voucher (roughly).

Faulty - Full refund within 28 days and voucher refund to current value up to 12 months. They will know if you damage the phone to make it faulty and won't accept it and then you will have a faulty phone that you can't sell.

Best bet is to sell it to ebay or a friend. Or take the 25-50% drop. Or learn to like it.

But they won't know if it has an intermittent fault, that can't replicate itself in the store.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

They don't usually refund on intermittent faults. They need to see it to refund

    Thanks for the help guys.

Also, thanks for those who actually read my post which is the vast majority of those who replied & noticed that neither i or my brother EXPECTED anything & was merely ENQUIRING on the forum as to what the situation is. Nothing more, nothing less.

Some people just like to rant for the sake of it though.

I'll pass on your advice of eBay as it's going to be his best bet.

    Thanks guys.
  • CeX stores can offer store credit within two days at management discretion, can't speak for franchise as I work for a company owned store.

Although the other posters are correct to state that there is no statutory right to a refund in respect of your brother, you think the day after would be ok to exchange it, CEX are notorious for not giving out money. They used to have a sign in our local one saying "no refunds" and when I asked about it the girl said "well if you bought something from a bootsale and it was broken you wouldnt get a refund so a shop is no different"
she just gave me a blank look when I tried to explain SOGA to her.
  • Aha wow. Thankfully my shop knows all the rules/laws etc :p

I've seen a couple of shops with "No refunds" signs, and reported them to trading standards. One of them got a slap on the wrist; the other was more severely dealt with, as I recall.
