    Thanks.

I'm in walton, biggest fear is stray dogs.

How are you doing today? My nerves would be shot, I hope you and the dogs are well today.

I also hope someone managed to catch the poor staffy (I know some wont agree, but it was clearly hurt and petrified, and probably had god knows what for an owner. What happened will never be acceptable but I can't stand to see any animal suffer).

Not far from me then Rev. Just round the corner! That's my worry about the staffie. He was obviously hurt anyway and now that I've calmed down a bit, I realise he was trying to stay around me. He kept coming at my dog, jumping on his back, and when tensions are high with two male dogs that's going to renew battle stations. It was like he was trying to get my dog out of the way.

His breathing wasn't right either, like ragged and raspy.

I really am worried if he's still out there because he's going to be in a lot of pain and needs treatment. And if dogs are in pain that's when they're unpredictable.

Maybe I'll call the RSPCA in the morning, see if they can put my mind at rest.

Superbiatch, how old's your staffie? When you say you couldn't trust him if he ever turned, has he ever shown any signs of aggression?

He's 13 and NEVER shown any aggression to any human, but he has to other bigger dogs. He's had quite a few goes in his time (and many have have taken a shot at him) but never once have I ever felt fearful of him, as I say if i had there would be no going back. He tends to be all noise and saliva with dogs, no real fighting so to speak. Even so, he was always on a lead or harness in his younger days.

He's now elderly and his back legs are arthritic (he uses wheels for long walks) but he still fancies his chances now and again with bigger and usually black dogs. He's always been the same with black dogs, he was attacked by two when he was a pup and its almost as if he remembers. I hate the fact his breed attracts such bad press, but there are so many idiots out there who choose the breed because they are so loyal.

I'm so happy your dog is ok, I know the strength staffies have - all muscle :o

Aw, poor little fella. Funny you should say he fancies his chances with black dogs...mine's a whippet/black labrador cross and looks like a skinny black labrador. He does seem to attract aggression from other dogs...maybe it's a common thing with black dogs?

I honestly think he remembers it from his puppyhood (if thats a word). They tried to savage him and it was only after OH intervened he was salvaged from the attack. He seems to take everything else on board (very clever!) so we are assuming this. He has even taken a dislike to a rottweiler biatch near to our house which is very strange. He might be 13, with bad back legs but he's got everything else still in tact and once he smells a biatch he's surgically attached to her smell :D

A vet told me once that dogs tend to be wary of black dogs because they cant see their facial expressions easily ?

Meanwhile, I hope your dog is ok now, poor little sod. But I also feel so sorry for the staff who seems to be in a terrible state. Us humans have a lot to answer for.

They call them Staffies because they do not fit the Staffordshire bull terrier breed standard.
This is often because it is a pit bull mongrel cross with aggressive tendencies of the pit bull.

A Staffordshire terrier is a small dog with a box shaped head, probably a third of the weight of one of these staffies and usually non aggressive.
We should not use this name to underplay the pitbull breeding of these dogs, A pit bull is a pit bull and should be called such.
The only solution should be to ban any fighting dog or part breed off that does not meet breed standards unless the owner has 3rd party insurance paid on a lifetime policy for the dog and registered in the dog microchip.
Responsible owners of these fighting breeds would understand.
    Hope your dog recovers.
The RSPCA have no more power than the local lollypop lady, you should always call the police on 999 to report a dangerous dog loose.
The police in this case should have acted sooner and despatched a ARV officer.
Not this BS again. You're talking poop:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I wonder if that's the case? Maybe the facial expression is harder to read on a black dog, I never thought of that.

My dog's ok now thankfully. His bites seem to be healing well enough. I rang the RSPCA about the staffie, to check if they had him, they said someone would call me back but nobody did. I'll try again in the morning.

I think a lot of young lads who insist on having staffies deliberately make them aggressive. I've seen one lad taking his staffie to the park, and getting the poor thing to hang from a high tree branch by it's jaws for 10 minutes at a time...what's that about?

And if I see a lad approaching with a staffie I keep my dogs close to me, and I can see the lad being well happy with that, because he knows his dog looks intimidating, which is what he wants.

I just feel so sorry for the poor dogs.
