No they don't they call them Staffies because its short for Staffordshire bull terrier. Even people with pedigree ones call them staffies. They call them Staffies because they do not fit the Staffordshire bull terrier breed standard..'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

I always thought, as Oliver says, that staffie is just an abbreviation of Staffordshire bull terrier.
Nikki, the dog was in Merseyside.
Rising from the ashes, my dog's a lot better this morning thanks. I took him to the vet and he cleaned the bites and found a third one inside his mouth.
He said they were clean so shouldn't need antibiotics.0 -
Really pleased to hear that Zaksmum - hoping the staffie is caught soon, for it's sake and everyone (human and animal) in the community.
Hopefully your boy will be "back to himself" in a couple of days but he is likely to be a bit subdued - and he may also be a bit nervous when he goes out the first few times.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

He's not the bravest of dogs anyway - he's a whippet/labrador cross and I think it's the whippet part of him that makes him nervous.
When I took him out this morning I made sure I had my walking stick with me just in case the staffie was still around.
There are some flats near the park with very unsavoury tenants - smackheads, robbers etc. and the stink of cannabis is always present. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some bone idle druggie owned the staffie and just turfed it out to walk itself. Poor dog would be in a right mess when it got home if that's the case.0 -
They call them Staffies because they do not fit the Staffordshire bull terrier breed standard.
This is often because it is a pit bull mongrel cross with aggressive tendencies of the pit bull.
Vax will you stop coming out with this nonsense about Staffies on various threads? You don't have a clue what you're on about with this particular topic, as has been pointed out to you by numerous posters in the past.0 -

Can I ask where abouts in Merseyside please? If you don't want to post can you drop me a PM?
I'm in Merseyside myself.Sigless0 -
Sorry Rev, I meant to say Liverpool city centre
Thanks.
I'm in walton, biggest fear is stray dogs.
How are you doing today? My nerves would be shot, I hope you and the dogs are well today.
I also hope someone managed to catch the poor staffy (I know some wont agree, but it was clearly hurt and petrified, and probably had god knows what for an owner. What happened will never be acceptable but I can't stand to see any animal suffer).Sigless0 -
