Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 29th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all couldn't see a thread, so started one. Very black outside still, have been up since half five when DS1 woke me! Still chance for a coffee and snuggle with him - but the puppy, dog and cat have joined in! We're getting crushed!

Gorgeous weather yesterday after a dodgy start here, think it will be the same again - lots of fog / low cloud - will have to get more washing out on the line. Not sure what dinner will be - but probably wedges and salad if it turns out as hot as forecast - need to go digging for my summer clothes!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Morning esmf and all who follow,

Still really dark here as well but we have been promised glorious sunshine later.
WM is on and I am getting packed lunches ready for the family.

Got to go back to school after work tonight for the year 6 open evening.
It should be quite fun with all those excited youngsters but it is very tiring!

We tried cauliflower and chick pea curry from Hugh's new book yesterday and it was lovely.

Hugs to all that need them especially Lou and JackieO

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Good Morning ESMF, Moorhen and All Who Follow,
Another one up early. In fact I have up since about 4.30 but so has Mooloo so we have kept each other company by chatting on-line. I thank the day that we became online and real-life friends via MSE:T:T:T

Anyway I hope to get to the shops as have to help DS2 practice his cooking for Home Economics AS level. The washing is out on the line and waiting for the heat of the sun to dry it. I still have loads of washing so will get another load on.

    Hugs x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Good Morning all,
golly what a warm night .If I woke once I must have woken half a dozen times .I even had the fan on as it was so sticky and hot .Not a sentence I thought I would ever write at the end of September :) I bet it won't last until half term though.I had my lymphodema treatment yesterday again and she is quite pleased with the progress.I didn't like to tell her that although its working well its something that will return as time goes on,but bless her she does try to help .She is only a young lass, and newly qualified and has yet to find out that yes it does help, and the swelling does go down for awhile but unless I am permanantly in bandaging it is something I just have to live with I accepted this a long while ago and I manage it fairly well I think . So no more appointments for a month at least.
This morning after the school run I have a check-up at the dentists at 10.00 then I have to pop into the shops to buy some golden syrup as I want to make some biscuits for the boys. All this warm weather means all the washing is up to date and ironed as well.
Looking out across the River Medway the sun is coming up and it looks like another scorcher on the way.Hope everyone has a good day whatever you are doing
    Cheers chums
    JackieO xx
  • Morning all, before and after!

PMS bit me yesterday so the day didn't really go according to plan. I really will be pleased when the Dr gets this sorted out for me but it could be a few more months till the she gets the dose of medication right. Sigh.

I was very proud of myself last night though: I went to a 'Meet the Author' event and where I would usually have bought at least one book even though I've spent my discretionary budget for this week. Instead I felt a little MSE angel on my shoulder and decided to request said book from the library instead.

Am hoping for a quietish day today, just doing what's necessary to keep the house, cats and me ticking over although if I can get a lift (and this is rather doubtful) I'd like to go to an exercise class tonight. The thought of exercising is 'orrible but I feel so good afterwards!

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Welcome Back Aussie Girl
BB nice to see you posting
I had an update from DD yesterday, the children are 5 & 6, so a bit younger than she was told at first.
Also the kindness of some people on this forum is astounding, where my DD & her foster children are concerned
The journey to the station was slightly less scarey this morning as there was no fog, hubby seems to have caught my cold, which he assures me is manflu & that he will need 24hr nursing care, lol.
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Could not get on yesterday, internet connection went funny, it was a beautiful day though, and today promises to be the same :T

Dinner tonight will be scampi (bogof) and chips with peas, and I need to run the hoover round and do a wash, loving these drying days.

Marie thanks for asking after my dad, he fell at home and fractured his hip about 8 weeks ago, he has been in hospital ever since on total bed rest, on tuesday he was moved to a home just around the corner from me and mum, and seems happier and more settled there, we think it is probably a permanant move, but will see how it goes, he does like it there and the care staff are amazed at how much he eats :rotfl:

Off to work today, so quick swish round this morning.

Aussie good to see you posting, is your dgs living with you now ? xx

Hugs to Jackie O and Lou

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,
didn't get on here y/day so haven't caught up. I did loads of gardening and had DGD for the day so my sewing plans went out the window, I managed to make a huge apple cake, savory scones, sos rolls and a pot of chilli when DGD had a 2 hr nap so DD2 went home with a goodie box.
I plan to get the windows cleaned before the sun gets on them, we had a pink sunrise here so looks like it's gonna be hot today again. The front garden needs attention and if I have time w/proof stuff on the double bar gates may get another coat.
Off to put the wm and bm on and catch up on y/days thread.
Hope it's a good day for all.
  • Morning all...

I'm so tired this morning, myself and DH decided not to go bed till late last night, it was so warm so thought we would chill on the patio with a bottle of wine and just the stars to keep us company... Perfect!

5am this morning DS thought it would be a good idea to yell into mummies & daddies ears ..OUCH!!. So off I stumbled down the stairs, made a cuppa and sorted brekkie...
Fast forward 1hr 25mins and my eye lids will finally open on there own without the need for matchsticks...Don't you just love kids!

Managed to get all the garden ready for winter yesterday, for a small garden it took some time!
the only thing to do now is take my line down, but for now it can stay where it is as I intend to wash every throw, blanket and cushion covers & make use of this beautiful sunshine.

Things to do today.....DW needs unloading, washer needs going on, just a quick clean round today, need to mop the kitchen floors etc
Also want to go for a walk with DH today to see if any conkers are out as want to have a go at making the conker wreath I saw last night on a blog I was viewing.

Change of plan to my menu tonight, don't fancy Carbonara so we are having pork and mushroom curry .

Right... off I trot up the stairs to the bathroom to make myself look presentable for the school run.

Hope everyone has a fantastic day... x

    Morning All,
Just a quick one today as am having internet probs :(
DS is off to school already, cats have been fed & the only washing is our bedding so will have to wait until DP gets up.
Today is DGS1's birthday he is 6!!!! I don't know where the time has gone, seems like only yesterday we brought him home from the hospital. Will give him a quick ring in a minute before he too goes off to school.
Knit & natter today, then more form filling :(, supposed to be liver & bacon for dinner tonight but I think it's going to be too hot for that.
Hope you all have good days x
    Hugs, spoons & hi5's all round x
