Yes they do start dropping data after a number of cycles - we use them for data collection and the number of cycles does vary - a ratio of 3-5 to one between good ones and poorer ones; you basically get what you pay for and there are a lot of fakes of the good ones around. That said if you are using them to transfer data around you are unlikely to run into the problem for many years even on a cheap one. Recording data every 10 minutes 24/7 they still have a life expectancy measured in years - the problem for us comes when we need to collect information every second - then the life expectancy hits us hard and we have to find ways round the problem like batching data or using a real hard drive.0 -
Hey y'all, I'd like to get 2 USB 1GB flash drives (one for me and one for a computer illiterate friend) that Martin was talking about, one of them seems to be out of stock (the first link - buffalo?) but the 2nd one is good, the kingston one. BUT, 2 of them stil comes less than £15! cheeky people. (hence no free delivery)
does anyone want one and want to make this 3, and qualify for free delivery? actually, thats stupid right? cos then i'd have to post it to someone LOL. I should really think before i post a reply. haha. unless someone lives/works in the London Bridge/Waterloo area? or something along those lines.
Give me a shout if anyone is interested.

Corsair are bringing out a frankly ludicrous 16GB flash pen drive very soon so the value of all the smaller capacity drivers will fall even further. :beer:0

Oh dear, the Amazon one is now "not in stock or discontinued"0

I paid £6.83 for the 1GB Kingston Pen Drive & Hellmann's Your Sandwich book back in December using the Hellmann's Code...so now the pen drive actually only cost £3.63.
One thing though, Amazon had actually increased the 1GB Kingston Pen Drive price up to £7.23 now ...the day before it is only retail at £4.26 as per Martin's post above!!!!!!
Christal,
What is the price dropping you are talking about ?
I bought two for £5.89 ea but paid £9 in p&p (which equates to £10.39 ea) from "the component store on the amazon market place, this morning it was for sale at £7.23 from amozon directly with the the super saver delivery.
If I had waited till now I could have got them for £14.46 with free p&p, bummer, ahh well hindsights a great thing !!!
Their prices yo-yo like crazy !!There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.0 -
Hi, i think there is a better option than the fixed memory stick. It us the variable memory card reader...It's a memory stick but reads off a memory card so you can change the size and have many cards. It works out cheaper. The memory card reader costs only 4 POUNDS INC DELIVERY with a 1GB memory card for e.g. on ebay

And then you can expand and change the memory by getting more memory cards e.g. on ebay
1GB= 3 POUNDS inc Delivery

2GB= 4 POUNDS inc Delivery

And the beauty is that you can use them with many other products such as mobile phones, digital camera, Nintendo wii etc (but bear in mind they have a maximum limit and should read manual before purchasing) Hope this is a better alternative....i have a memory card reader With a 2GB for my laptop, 512Mb card for my digital camera, and a 256mb for my phone...all not intechangable with my laptop it's great!0 -
