Yes, as if you go to court and plead guilty you will get a much bigger fine. They add a £15 victim surcharge on to a fine too."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

My partner said it could go up to £200! :eek:0

Easily as it is based on a persons earnings."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

If it had been something like 15mph over then ok.
Obviously the uk police seem to be 'Over keen' on RT issues due to the fine collection.
O.K. We''ll all decide the point after which action is taken in our individual cases.
What the speed limit will be then, is anybodies guess.
Have you any idea of the costs involved in prosecuting a case? I'm sure they would rather not have to.0 -
By the way, I'd like to say to ppl who wrote things abt loophole......
I do drive everyday around 120 miles as my uni is over 50 miles away from my house, plus twice a week I drive 150 miles extra. I do have enough of driving! I did not remember that a camera did take a pic of me on the day they said I did exceeded the speed limit. The camera didn't flash and I was driving with someone and that person didn't remember camera flash too. SO I believe that I have a right to see the evidence.
Do you think they picked your details out of a hat?
How did they know WHERE you were driving? And WHEN.
Perhaps they got it from a speed camera photograph? And you don't believe them because you didn't notice a flash?
It seems most people on here have got you summed up as "bloody minded", and I can't see anything to contradict that.0 -
It won't make a lot of difference. It made no difference to my wife's policy when she got 3 points for speeding last year. But shop around the insurance companies and get plenty of quotes.
Agreed. Not much difference, for ONE offence, but try for a quote if you have two or three.
Would hate for people to think a speeding offence has NO effect.0 -
£1000 and 6 points is the maximum for a speeding offence.
No it isn't. You can be banned for exceeding the speed limit (although the charge is likely to be "dangerous driving") and the maximum fine is two thousand five hundred pounds. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I'm fairly sure that a COFP is always valid for 28 days, and of course, during that time, an information cannot be laid before the court. OP, this requires some further research. And you need confirmation that the date of offer of fixed penalty is definitely 12 September.
ETA: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/53/part/III/crossheading/conditional-offer-of-fixed-penalty-in-scotland
(7)A conditional offer must—
(a)give such particulars of the circumstances alleged to constitute the offence to which it relates as are necessary for giving reasonable information about the alleged offence,
(b)state the amount of the fixed penalty for that offence, and
(c)state that proceedings against the alleged offender cannot be commenced in respect of that offence until the end of the period of twenty-eight days following the date on which the conditional offer was issued or such longer period as may be specified in the conditional offer.
(8)A conditional offer must indicate that if the following conditions are fulfilled, that is—
(a)within the period of twenty-eight days following the date on which the offer was issued, or such longer period as may be specified in the offer, the alleged offender—
(i)makes payment of the fixed penalty to the fixed penalty clerk, and
(ii)where the offence to which the offer relates is an offence involving obligatory endorsement, at the same time delivers his licence and its counterpart to that clerk, and...
OP, I suggest that you re-post on pepipoo: http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=5, where someone with more knowledge will be able to confirm the correct position for you. You will need to provide accurate information about all correspondence, and the dates on everything that you have received.0
