Earmuffs with headphones are a great idea!
The cold doesn't put me off, but ice and snow do, cos I worry about slipping and breaking something. Fingers crossed we won't have as much snow as last winter...0 -

So glad the dosser's gone! Nice to have your own place back and doubly nice to have your possessions to yourself!LondonGirl252 wrote: »Forgot to tell you all about my weigh in! When dosser was weighing her suitcase I weighed myself and am under 10st for the first time in about 2 years! Ive lost over half a stone in the last few weeks since I started running regularly again! Well chuffed
Well done! Makes me wonder if I should start running... never got very far with it in the past but I have lost heart with circuit training which enabled me to lose half of what I need to lose last year. Sadly it's creeping back so I must find something. Do you have a programme to work to or just build up a bit at a time? It would take me ages to work up to 12K.

Thanks Miggy!
When I started I had never really ran before so I built up using an app - but you could easily just time it yourself - where week one you would run 2 or 4 times for 30 mins like this:
5 mins walk
1.5 mins run
1.5 mins walk
repeat until 25 mins
5 mins walk to cool down
Then the next week increase the runs by 0.5 mins and decrease the walk by 0.5 mins and so on and you can just build up at your own pace and you'll feel your stamina increasing.
I have the adidas app now, which was free, and it monitors your pace, calories, distance etc and plays a playlist through earphones.
You can set it at miles or km, i set mine at km, and each weekend Ive set myself new targets ie run for 3km without stopping if its a flat route. If Im on the heath i'll set myself challeneges to run up the hills as fast as I can, then have a little walk after to get breath back. Being told the stats at every km is quite motivational actually!
If I run at lunch with colleagues then they have a 4.6km route and they're quite seasoned runners so faster than me, so with them I just set myself the challenge to keep up!Santander 0% £1,529.94

Thanks for the tips LondonGirl. I really don't like running, but we keep chatting about the 2013 Brighton Marathon at work and I keep piping up that I'll do it too! Your tips above will come in really handy to get me into shape. Although I cycle a lot, I still don't seem to have sufficient lung capacity for running. I think that's probably because you can ease up on the gears or freewheel for a bit on the bike, while running is obviously a constant.
I agree with you on the £10 a day system so I feel for you with the accidental overpayment earlier this month. It gives you a stronger sense of ability knowing each day that there's another £10 waiting for you, doesn't it? I'm loving that part too. I also feel that by going with the £10 a day I have an opportunity to save for something I really want too which I've never been able to do before. So I feel more affluent in that respect.
I was sorry to hear about your FM's dosser friend. It really is upsetting that there are people like that in the world.0 -
Hey miggy and Muffin Tops! I think I've seen a running thread somewhere on these boards but haven't read it properly yet. It might be good for motivation.
I started running 2 around 2 years ago using a book called "Run Away From Fat". It's a programme for absolute beginners. I'm not sure it's still in print, it's maybe 10 years old. It was full of practical advice though and I went from not being able to run for a bus (my first run was 5 mins long!) to being able to run 10k, which I never would have thought possible. I then got some running buddies and went from strength to strength, but we've all moved to different towns now and I let it slide.
Maybe we could motivate each other?
Oh, and sorry for hijacking the thread, London Girl. How's the social plan for the rest of the month looking?0 -
Here it is, sorry its taken me so long!
25g butter
750 g lamb fillet, sliced (I used shoulder fillets as it was very easy to slice into medallions
2 onions, chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped (I crushed them in my crusher)
2.5cms (1 inch) root ginger peeled and finely chopped
1 tsp ground turmeric
2 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp cumin seeds, roughly crushed
2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp crushed dried red chillies
2 tblsp plain flour
400g (1 can) chopped tomatoes
300ml (1/2 pint) lamb stock
4 tblsp double cream
Preheat the slow cooker, use the low setting. Heat butter in a large frying pan, cook the lamb until brown stirring constantly. Lift the meat out of the pan with tongs or slotted spoon so that the liquid remains behind, and stick it in the slow cooker.
Use the same pan and liquid to fry the onions until softened and they begin to turn golden. Stir in the garlic, ginger, spices and dried chillies and cook for one minute.
Mix in the flour then add the tomatoes and stock. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly.
Pour the mixture over the lamb pieces. Make sure the lamb pieces are all below the liquid. Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook for 8-10 hours. When done stir in the cream. Serve with rice (and maybe a naan bread).

I used to hate running too, until I built it up properly and got out and about then I began to enjoy it more. Allow yourself breaks as you get fitter and you will soon notice you can run longer and longer periods
Yeah I felt I was doing so much better when I had my £10 a day the last week has been really stressful and I havent stopped thinking about money and how much I dont have! Roll on Tuesday and payday!Santander 0% £1,529.94
