Whilst I was at the front door talking to this person I vagulely thought i heard our dog (no longer with us sadly) barking at the back of the house in the utility room where she lived. Later discovered that my DD1s school satchel was missing which she said she had left by the back door. They must have tried the back door while I was occupied at the front, found it open, and thanks to the dog they had just grabbed what they could and legged it. Lesson here, always lock and bolt your doors as there is always a chancer about.

I never answer the front door unless I know who it is, once the door is open they can push their way in or have an acomplise waiting out of sight. I go in the front room knock on the window & ask them what they want & jut say we don't buy anything at the door and wave them away. I'm young & strong but I'm trying to teach all my elderly neighbours to do the same & to lock their back doors.

I also tell them when they get a phone call that says "Hello Mrs Smith" they shouldn't confirm whether they are or not just say who is calling & not feel they have to get into a conversation if someone is selling something. Also with widows, if they get a call asking for Mr Smith likewise they shouldn't say he's dead or there isn't one but who is calling. The caller may be checking to see if they live alone.

Its horrible we have to live like this these days but you can't be too careful. Sermon over

lol please dont encourage her :rotfl:that aint a bad idea though, i could push them down the road to the allotment and they can have the worms i dig up.... i already take my rat for walks (just around the garden!)
