I think you've hit the nail on the head with this though when you say 'trout'. I'm always nice (not trying to say you are not BTW lol) to the people in my local and often point them at bargains. I'm known as a bargain hunter, I guess provided I don't take the p*ss by doing numerous DTD's then I should be fine. After all, Tesco still make money from me, just that as a savvy shopper and bargain hunter, its not as much as perhaps from a more ignorant shopper.

I never kick it off at CS in my local stores either.

IMO your undoing was doing 2 items in one transaction. Stuck out like a sore thumb imo.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. AS I remember there was someone called The Postman who seemed to get unbelievable luck or was it persistance on R&R and bragged about it on these threads. He/she may still be around as it was believed by the community at the time that he was operating here under many identities. (are you still here?)
Anyway what I think may have been the pivotal moment in R&R disappearing was when he/she posted about getting TV free and £500.01p refund because they were charged 1p over the SEL price. Understandably in anyones book it signalled an end to R&R. I believe it made the press at the time but I've not been aware of anything else since until the TCO made the news recently.

Found some mens AW10 Knitwear scanned at 4p got trouted by SA who said 'I can't sell them for that'. I went to a manned till as they had security tags on, I only had 3 two brown and 1 black.

And then to make matters worse the correct discount came off the aquafresh and they had removed the sels for the timotei!!

You can still use the SS tills. Just give the clothes to the SSA to take off the tags after they've been paid for, or before you put them through the till (if you want to distract them ;)).
  • Hey everyone:)
I've not read back yet, just wanted some advice.

Just got back from T's and we are so annoyed! My aunty is looking for a bed guard as well as my mums friend as their LO's are moving into big beds:) and we have been looking in all 4 of our locals for a bedguard and each one NEVER have any! So imagaine our delight to find three there tonight!

SEL said £25ish but everyone has reported them going for 60p so we took it for a price check (no scanners). The lady took it, scanned it, grinned and started looking from the bedguard to the scanner in disbelief all the while with a massive grin across her face. She then says 'um, we cant sell you this' and me and mum just looked at her, she offered no reason why? So my mum asked why and she said 'um, um, i just cant. Its erm, ... not on file'.

I thought i had my mum trained but next, she asked my mum if there were any left on the shelf and she said yes!!:( :( so off the lady went and took them back behind her sales desk. We walked around the corner and then she then called two SA's over and suddenly grins spread accross their faces too. We actually needed them and she was sharing them with her friends right in front of us:(

    - Do you think this is worth a phonecall/email or are they perfectly in their rights to refuse to sell it to me to obviously keep it to themselves?

    TIA xx

Seems to be a night for trouting...... just been trouted and put to shame for trying to purchase 4 PJ items at 4p each. Used the self scanner thinking it would be less obvious not realising they had security tags on. The SA came to take them off only to notice that they were 4p and refused to sell them to me. Gutted :(
  • Yay, got my first DTD on the knives set today :j Thank to OP
Supervisor in store was really apologetic but the CS was none too happy about giving me a refund - so DTD and a Trout experience, I no longer feel like a total MSE novice!!!!!!!!!
Also lots of the 75p laundry sets in store and I finally found some of the elusive 87p impulse sets on 342 - bought 3, left 2 on the shelf. lol

Unfortunately they're within their rights but I'd say it would depend who you asked for a price check. I would have thought only a manager could refuse a sale. And yes, quite a few have managed to get them for 60p but I wouldn't go about mentioning this if you do phone HO. I would simply say that a friend/neighbour/relative had bought them for a few pounds recently (I think my mum got one at 60p but one previously for £3) so you asked for a pricecheck. Unfortunately it's your word against theirs that the item "wasn't on file" and that the staff purchased them.

Thankfully not been trouted at SS (bar my custard glitch trouting after I paid as was practically accused of coupon abuse in front of other customers). My method is to scan and pay as quick as possible. If the items have tags, scan them while the SA is dealing with someone else then either pay or scan other things through to get that item off the screen.

I thought if I picked a young cashier they might just let it go through - but I met a young trout! Will definitely go through SS next time, I'm betting the jumpers went home with staff, I don't mind if they get there first but they didn't.:p

I know it does happen that but surely the staff can only take a small proportion of what's on offer. Possibly some of the best but that's a perk of the job. I'm sure Ive seen other people posting that the staff deserve the pickings as they are so poorly paid. After all they are only MSErs in a Tesco uniform;). I've no idea what Tesco staff get paid so can't comment.

I would only see it as a problem if Tesco are pushing these things as loss leaders and staff are taking the majority before the public gets them. I can see that you feel strongly about this and would suggest that you email Philip Clarke to make your point and cite whatever information you have. I've been equally frustrated at times, so I sympathise, but I personally don't have enough evidence to do so:cool:
Whilst chatting to the girl on the till on Sunday she told me that Tesco's pay their staff the highest wages out of the major supermarkets. (I think Lidl's pay more) Apparently Asda pay the least.
She said she was on just over £7.00 per hour and that was her starting wage
According to her, Sainsbob's is about 20p less and Asda only pay £6.00
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.
