Thanks for the heads up on the scam site, guys. Didn't fancy it anyway, but someone else might have been tempted.

Limey, do you want to edit your original post where you mentioned them for others who don't read further than that?

    Done.

As they say if it seems too good to be true it usually is.
  • I wouldn't ever buy another dell laptop to be honest. They look good but my last one has conked out after less than a year. And the customer support and technical support are simply appalling. I made the mistake of taking out an extended Warrenty and have made three seperate appointments so far, of which two the engineer hasn't bothered to turn up at all and the last one he came and broke it even worse. Lucky number four hopefully.
  • Anyone gets between me and my Dell at their own risk!

Not cheap, but a thing of wonder.

I've just bought my Missus a new laptop from saveonlaptops.com - definitely worth a look.

I bought her a Toshiba, advertised as 4gig RAM but turned up with 6gig. I also took the 5-day free delivery option but it was sent next day. You don't get much better for less than £300...
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

    Another question...

What's the deal with connecting to the internet? We've got a BT Home Hub.
Will we still need to use the USB stick thing to get wireless internet? Or will the laptop come with wireless technology built-in?
Anything I should look out for?

The other thing that would be cool would be a bluetooth receiver. We find it ever so tedious getting our PCs to recognise our Nokia phones to get photos off. Takes ages once plugged in. Would be great if we could just bluetooth the odd photo across.
But that's probably just wishful thinking at this stage!

Will be going to PC World on Monday to have a look.

    Thanks,

    Jim

All laptops come with built in Wireless capability. This Fujitsu is nice.

As to Bluetooth, you just need a simple dongle costing less than £1 for your PC. The Fujitsu already has it built-in.

PC World? No need at this stage. ;)

JimmyTheWig, you say that you believe you qualify for the Student edition of MS office. By that, do you mean that one of your household is a student (school. uni or adult education)? If so Software4Students do MS Office 2010 Pro plus for £37.89 delivered.
Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p

Hey, that Fujitsu looks good. And it's in stock, which is better than the cheap ones on PC World's website!
Had forgotten about dabs. Would certainly be happy buying from them.

It calls itself a Notebook. Is this different from a Laptop?

Other opinions about this Fujitsu? Can anyone find anything better?

What are dabs like for keeping things in stock? Is this likely to still be there at this price next week?

Yes, our children are at school and would be using Office on the laptop.
That's a much better price than I'd found. More in line with what I was expecting for students. Thanks for that.

Nope, it's just the more 'professional' name
