    Thanks Limey.
Presumably these would be significantly better than the PC World ones? Budget should be able to stretch to that if the consensus is it is worth it.

In terms of them being recon / returned, do you know what you're getting before it comes? I.e. did you know about the bubbles on the lid cover of yours or is there a chance you end up, unexpectedly, with something particularly damaged looking?

Performance wise they are much better than something of equivalent price from major retailers and from a personal point I've always liked Dells. The i3 processor is a pretty good bit of hardware, I'm no computer expert (prefer mechanical things) but my buddy is an IT bod and said they were the ones to get.

A recon one will be as new, for example it may have been returned with a damaged screen and Dell have replaced the screen but as it's been done by the manufacturer I can't see how the repaired unit would be any different to a shiny new one. Bump/scratch will be a minor inperfection, they don't specify exactly what it is but I was confident they wouldn't sell something with (for example) a scratched screen or missing keys.

    Cooo, how about this:

The more savvy on here will be able to give a better opinion than myself but it looks good to me.

EDIT: Ok in light of the comments below DO NOT buy from the linked site.

i recently got one of those for a friend - it's capable enough and £200 quid with three years warranty can't be bad!
the ram is only upgradable to 3gb but that probably doesn't matter to the op - the only downside to it i thought was the build quality, it does feel a bit cheap and the keyboard wasn't great but at that price point i can't imagine there would be much better

That's one thing I really like about the Dell laptops, they've got a lovely feel to the keyboard and the build quality is top notch.

And no I'm not employed by Dell.:p

Looks good, Limey, but I think I'd be happier when spending this sort of money to go somewhere I'd heard of.
So am tempted by the Dell ones. And would still be tempted by the PC World one if they had them in stock anywhere!

I'm sure the owner of 'buyitplayit.com' will be less than impressed with that .org website.

Don't even think about attempting a purchase from the .org website.

    buyitplayit.com is probably ok.

The Dell Outlets machines are not always refurbs!
By the looks of the current stock (i.e. lots of Inspiron 15r's) they had a bulk order from a large company/council that was cancalled.

It's not unusual for placed like Dell to start stocking up laptops/desktops when they start to finalise contracts with large orgonisations, and when they fall through or details get changed (i.e. wanting 17" instead of 15" laptops) Dells left with a large amount of laptops that it then sells at cost.
