Maybe I need to get a life but every year I do a "fun theme" for Valentines and pimp the pad (usually the conservatory) and my girlfriend only finds out what the theme is when she is ready to eat.

    Last year it was Space.
Bought one of those white plastic/painters boilersuits and made a helmet using a kiddies punch balloon and paper mache for the helmet and printed NASA logos off the web to accessorize.

Bought various moon themed items such as glow in the dark stars, posters, cards etc. locally and named a star/bought plot of land on the moon (off the web), and PhotoShopped place mats. Also made up a Cd of "Space tunes"

My girlfriend/victim was blindfolded and sat down at the table then when told to take it off to found me entering the room all dressed up to the sound of David Bowie Space Odditty

    Starter:
space invader (crisps) and ecto plasma (dips)

    Main Course:
moon shaped pizza (cut in a semi crecent),
    baked potoato asteroids,
garlic bread rocket (wrapped in in tin foil with added decals)

    Dessert:
    moon pie.

    Finnished off with
"The moon is made of cheese" (and wine and crackers)

All washed down with various alien juices and vodka etc.

The year before it was a 70s pimp theme, before that a Southern Redneck and before that Mexican, all with me dressed up, music and decorations.

Girlfriend and her workmates love the fact I put so much thought into it and they all wanna know how it went and go home asking their partners why they do not put so much thought and effort into Valentines.

In reality it does not take much to organise, a little web searching and a bit of imagination with a sprinkiling of humour and most of the times it costs less than 2 dozen roses and a box of chocs (not that there is anything wrong with them).

Not sure who I do it all for, her or the fact I enjoy organising it. As I said, I think I need to get a life ;-)

    ...obviously no kids then ?!!!!

However Alex, I feel you would carry on doing the same even then....just takes just that little bit extra to plan something.........romance doesn't have to go out of the window once children arrive :D
