This week I took 5 to the post office on Tuesday, asked for 1st class signed for with tracking, woman gave the price for each £1.83 (all the same price, as they were all DS games). Went on Wednesday, and got the man, asked for the same service and was quoted £5.43, I was like, erm no I had posted 5 of the same kind of items on the day before and was charged £1.80 odd, so he said, OK you want 1st class recorded then, that will be £2.59! I just don't understand??
I am still quite confused!
Oh and to clarify, It was the same weight as the others!
Heaven knows where your £1.83 parcels will end up- there is no such price band for UK 1st class recorded. There is no rate band for £2,59 either
Assuming you managed to keep these slim enough for large letter, the average game falls into the 100-250g category which is £1.09 plus 77p recorded (useless waste of money of course) which would be £1.86. If the packaging had been too thick then for the same weight as a packet it owuld be £1.96 plus 77p. As postage for games is capped you are also paying for part of the postage, including the useless recorded element, out of your profit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If the packages with the wrong prices have a sender's address they will come back to you anytime between six weeks and six months via Northern Ireland OR the recipient will get a card requesting extra postage before they can have them. If they refuse the packages or just don't bother coming to get them if a red card is left, then the former will still happen.
For the Ebay packages you'd best let all your buyers know what happened and to ask them to tell you if they've had the card demanding more postage - if the tracking numbers don't give any info - and that will hopefully keep 'em sweet and stop them leaving negative feedback.
Reminds me of the T-Shirts I posted overseas for birthday presents, I didn't want to use International Signed For at £13, so paid £7-8 for Air-mail - and the package took a month as if it was surface mail instead! That's a complaint to follow up with. If they're overpricing rather than underpricing packages, you can put 2 and 2 together and guess what they're doing with the difference, can't you? :mad:0 -
There's one person who works in the big post office in town who ALWAYS complains when I ask him for proof of ptostage; all he has to do is print a receipt, and write the house name/number and postcode and then stamp it...even when they then got a new batch of POP certificates in stock, he complained about having to check and stamp/sign the one item. !!!!!!!0

I have a lovely woman in my local PO, the problem is it's in the co-op and she's hardly ever there!!!0

Some good some bad. I have two closeby. One is run by a grumpy old man who will only take one parcel at a time and insists on slamming the shutter down each time. The other one slightly further away couldnt be better. Friendly and efficient. They appreciate that its us ebayers that help keep the post offices open now.
So now i travel a little further and go to the nice one. I hope when it comes to cutting back and closing one that the grumpy old man realises hes done it to himself! Rant over. There not all bad x
I think it's a difference in expectations though - it's difficult and expensive to employ people with all their rights etc but those don't apply to people who "keep it in the family".
I think people who work in service industries need to keep focused on their customers. If you don't like working with customers, don't work in an industry that requires interaction with them. There's a misanthropical streak running through many people who work in shops or on eBay and you ask yourself - why bother if you can't be doing with at least being polite?"Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I had to stop using my local PO as they were far too expensive. Things that easily fit through the 'large letter' slot were deemed to be a packet as the post mistress could 'hear' them touching the sides. Even two sheets of paper in a standard envelope had to be a large letter rather than a standard letter as it touched the side.
It was a shame as they were otherwise quite helpful. we even exchanged Christmas gifts, but my postage margins were too tight to pay extra because a large letter touched the sides of the measuring gaugeI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin, you can remind them, if it fits through it is fine, it doesn't have to slip through it has to fit through.
I know some post offices do still insist, but you do just have to be firm sometimes!0 -
The problem that has changed things is most PO's are not sub-contracted to companies who pay little over minimum wage, so you don't get the levels of customer service you used to have.
If you work in a Crown Office, you're still staff of Post Office Counters (RM) and get a bit more money....although not as much as other Royal Mail staff!0 -

She wouldn't have it and it really wasn't worth the hassle. Still it motivated me to sort out a better posting scheme, and I now stamp all my post at home and get it dropped off direct at the mail centre every day.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
