There is a really terrible member of staff at my PO which makes me hate going in there as she always seems to end up serving me. She can't cope with parcels being sent by different services, she asks how I want the first one sent and then does everything else the same. She will only put things as a large letter unless I expressly ask her to, the only time she has done it of her own volition was when I was posting a pair of baby shoes which she squashed down so much trying to fit them through the slot (they didn't) that they probably looked awful when they arrived. And she always does a massive sigh if I ask for a POP. In short it's pretty clear that she finds her job way too much effort! I am so tempted to complain about her as she has come close many times to damaging my customer service by sending things by the wrong service etc, but somehow I feel bad about it... :/

Is lunch just for wimps? Maybe you should remmeber which decade you are working in.

Not at all, its called dedication to a job to get somewhere in life.

Of course working in a post office is a career for some folk so good on them...

My post was aimed at the technology used in the post office. More post offices should have self service tills tbh. There's not really any need for staff when it comes to taking parcels (except when the machine breaks...)

My post office doesn't even have digital scales that are linked to the computers meaning it takes 10 seconds or so to read the weight and input it into the computer and they have to manually feed labels into a printer (why don't they come on a roll?). Not much per parcel but over the day it must add up to a fair amount of time.

Some good some bad. I have two closeby. One is run by a grumpy old man who will only take one parcel at a time and insists on slamming the shutter down each time. The other one slightly further away couldnt be better. Friendly and efficient. They appreciate that its us ebayers that help keep the post offices open now.
So now i travel a little further and go to the nice one. I hope when it comes to cutting back and closing one that the grumpy old man realises hes done it to himself! Rant over. There not all bad x

I dread going to the local one here. The woman is so off it spoils my day. I've never heard anyone stamp as hard and as loud as she can with the stamp - she moved here from London a couple of years back & she is not happy bunny.
I actually take my parcels nearly 70 miles away to post to a big town where I can get a weekly shop! It is such a shame as I spend a lot on postage that the local PO is missing out on but the woman is unbearable.

Same here, if my main PO ever went down the drain service-wise (and I gave them an earful for putting up photocopying charges without changing the sign outside when new owners took over) I would stay on the bus to go to the centre of town branch even though it's the busiest of the three in my area.

Bit OT but my postie must be 'tarded. Despite the stickers by the doorbell to say use the Parcel Box, he still cards me for anything that can't be put through the lettebox. If it needs signing, fair enough, but this is just staff from Amazon. Well annoying, I now have 3 cards and will have to go out my way to the Mail Centre. TBH, who would worry if the PO is sold off?
  • I actually gave in and sold some of my sons old DS games this week for him, I haven't sold on ebay for over 4/5 years. This week I took 5 to the post office on Tuesday, asked for 1st class signed for with tracking, woman gave the price for each £1.83 (all the same price, as they were all DS games). Went on Wednesday, and got the man, asked for the same service and was quoted £5.43, I was like, erm no I had posted 5 of the same kind of items on the day before and was charged £1.80 odd, so he said, OK you want 1st class recorded then, that will be £2.59! I just don't understand??
    I am still quite confused!
Oh and to clarify, It was the same weight as the others!
Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me :)

Good idea but look at the state of self service checkouts at the supermarkets, crap American software that makes the process of paying for your shopping a more lengthy process!

My local PO are terrible also and soooooooo slow! (in fact so are the other 2 that are relatively close by) It's part of the reason that I decided to get an account with RM so that I do them all myself which saves me nearly 30 mins a day however they now won't accept my sacks so I've had to complain and take them to the main PO every day which is about 5 miles each way and pay for parking for the time being until the PO customer service sort them out.
