Well, it all went well.... I picked up the car and drove to my mum's, picked up her cool box which plugs into the cigarette lighter and keeps the food uber cold :) and drove home again.

Actually quite looking forward to going now I've got over the initial bump of picking the car up.

Just gonna have a brew and then we're off :D

Hope you guys are all ok :) I've missed you all.

  • Hello,

    Hello everyone :)

our holiday was fab - really enjoyed it. There was no mobile signal *at all* in the cottage where we stayed so it was a complete break from things. We did all sorts - pottery painting; trip on the nearest lake; went to see FIL; bird of prey centre; explored a nearby castle and its' grounds... also spent many pennies :o

We didn't do enough picnics really... 6 days there and we did 2 picnics, 3 days we bought lunch and one day we had lunch bought for us by FIL. I could list reasons why but they're probably all poorly disguised excuses for "I couldn't be arsed to make a picnic every day" :o:o:o

Only spent £63 on diesel, which was better than I was expecting, considering it was there and back and we did a minimum of 25 miles a day in the car while we were there.

Did get sucked into buying a few things - bought the pottery that the kids painted, plus I decorated an oil burner for our living room and a teapot for my mum for Christmas (she likes teapots), and that's having to be posted by courier as their kiln had an element failure. Bought some little nicknacks for the kids - sand creatures, dominoes, glove puppets, a 12" Gruffalo (apparently the small one just wouldn't do! :rotfl:), a little dish to put used teabags in that says "Keep calm and drink tea" - very apt :D also bought some birthday cards and a birthday gift for a friend.

All in all I think we did alright - it was difficult to judge how it was going to be, but now we've done it (and we'll definitely go again) we know what to expect so we'll be better prepared next time :)

So now I'm hoping for minimal spending between now and when our CC month ends. Got a baby shower tonight, so have bought a giant pack of nappies for that (seems impersonal but that's what she asked for!), plus some dream catchers which are a surprise but I'm going to wait until after the birth to give her those. Did have to buy some cat litter - pesky moggies! ;) hoping that I can get away with not much else - raid my freezer stashes (which are quite healthy at the moment) for meals and put off other things until 2 weeks time. I got the kids feet measured - they are all still ok in their shoes for the moment, and I should be able to just about cope with washing my hair over the bath for the next 3-4 washes until we can afford to replace the shower hose which has split

Finally, so I can end on a good note, manwife has had a wage rise of £740pa so thats an extra £40pcm in the bank account. Every little helps and all that! :D

Time for another brew I think ;) :rotfl:

Whack a plea on freecycle just in case someone has a spare that might do.

  • Oops... I meant to also say glad you had a good holiday. It's nice to get away for a bit and the no mobile phone reception sounds like bliss.

Hmmm, I may have found a remortgage deal that I like (Santander's remortgage offer was pap!) ... can someone who has actually done a remortgage before give me a quick rundown of how exactly it works please?

Aww... I just reached 1000 superpoints... and was looking forward to being able to trade it in, only to discover they've raised the threshold and it's now 1200 :(
