Well sometimes I think I am such an idiot.
I got Martins weekly email and thought ok I will give the Capital One card a try and see if I can actually get a 0% deal as EVERYTHING I have tried to apply for over the last 18 months, no matter how small is refused!
Well I applied and strangely enough I did not get accepted even for that!!! I have not done alot of applying for anything as I just know that it will be refused straight away so what is the point of having credit searches on my file.
I know as you can see that I have a large amount of credit card debt....... But for a card that is supposed to be for those with a poor credit rating I thought there would be a chance.
I only wanted to be able to pay more off the cards that I do get charged interest and then would have paid it straight off before the 0% ended.... Oh well, I must be a really bad risk or something then but can't think why as I pay all my bills and the cards are set up at the minimum payment by direct debit.... Will be as soon as we get paid starting to pay off additional payments too.
I am at a loss really.0 -
Hi Silkglade
I can't really offer much advice as to why you've been refused, although I remember a friend (who worked in the financial sector) once telling me that if you made more than 3 applications for credit in a 6 month period you would most likely be turned down, even if you hadn't then taken the credit. Could this be the problem?
Keep at it though, you're making progress which is the important thing :0

No I only applied for 1 thing in 6 months and was refused then too... before that it has been ages, over a year with nothing applied for0

Well what a surprise still NO refund (was told it could be there today but more than likely tomorrow) I am getting rather frustrated with all this rubbish now. What is the betting I will be on the phone yet again tomorrow when it is till not there.
21 days to issue a refund, I think it is rather pathetic talk about making the most of grabbing the extra interest for as long as possible.... at the rate they are going I will miss the payment date for the Barclaycard all together!!! Just really want it GONE and to actually feel like we are getting somewhere.
Good news is that it is PAY DAY on Monday yippee and therefore the final payment to my Dad..... That will be one definite debt gone. :T
Then to see what I actually get paid as I have some overtime this month too. Will be able to know what is left then to start throwing at the Sainsburys card.

Well month 1 and the very start of my journey is almost over. I have made some mistakes but I feel like it is a learning curve at the moment....
I applied for a Capital One card...... Got refused!
I have gone through the whole I'm to blame for EVERYTHING - Debt and non debt related.
I have been really up and down with the old emotions.... Just have to look back through the posts to see that (bet some of you think I am just mad as a hatter).
We have got a spending diary all set up and written up until April 2011 (when amounts of things change for the next financial year) :T
I have in the 1st month managed to OVERSPEND by £2.12... unfortunately it was the spending diary that put us over budget!
Though as we had not budgeted for ANYTHING other than FOOD AND PETROL I feel we did rather well as we had other outgoings like the final interest only payment off my Nationwide card, and the £20 I had to pay straight away off the Halifax card (due to a change in payment date happening and the additional interest took me overlimit by £4.12 which I then incurred a further £12 Overlimit charge too. (when I phoned up though the lovely lady refunded the charges, and the one from the previous month too as the bloke I spoke to before was very unhelpful and did not explain ANYTHING to me)
Then I was invited to a Summer Ball by my best friend which I thought would be really good for me (as I have totally stopped socialising at all due to the anxiety and depression) It only cost me £13 which included me getting a dress (I don't wear dresses usually) It ended up being a disaster as I went almost suicidal for about a week after and to be honest I am still not right)
And then Finally there was OH's Mum's birthday which was a total of £47.85, So I am thinking that as we ended up spending £86.10 on NON FOOD or PETROL out of the food and petrol allowance and only went over by £2.12 then that is a good result..... sort of.
We have as a result lowered our food and petrol allowance from £450 - £400 as of this pay day.0 -
Good morning all......
Well the refund is in (I am still in shock!!!!......). And it is MORE than they said it would be.... Only a little more at £377.03 instead of £372.86..... :j
But that now means that we will not be going into the overdraft for the over budget amount of £2.12 as stated yesterday......
It actually means that we have and will remain a massive £2.05 in credit this month YAY
Yay, we have for the 1st month in forever managed to stay out the overdraft too (purely by fluke though). :T
I can't wait till OH updates me that he has made the payment off the card and I will be removing it from my signature.... and then on Monday (PAY DAY... YIPPEE) I will be removing my Dad's loan off my Signature too.

Thanks wot-a-mess. I really appreciate your support. :A
Unfortunately short lived as i'm now a little down though should be really pleased that the 1st one is gone.......
Why does every silver lining have a cloud???
OH paid off Barclaycard...... and decided to tell me it was actually MORE than he told me as it went past the statement date (on the 5th I might add)!!!
Account now showing as -£13.09.... He was like "well it's only £13 it does not matter!!!!!! :wall:
He does NOT get why I am angry!!!!! I spend hours going over and over EVERYTHING making sure ALL my figures are correct about all the cards. He is supposed to be the part qualified accountant.... NOT ME
He only had this one and one other to think of and the rest are mine.....
He thinks I am being unreasonable and over reacting.... I don't as it is things like this that helped get us to where we are now. I don't want to be hitting the overdraft every month (which was why I was down yesterday as we were going to go overdrawn by £2.12.... so to me YES it does MATTER) :eek:0 -
Well managed to get back to sleep for a while (starting weekend nights tonight at work)... Still have a lovely cold with the dreaded sinus pain but I have to go in as not long been back from long term sick..... If I can stand I have to go!!!

Had a chat (yet another one) with OH about finances just now.......... I really hope that something starts to change and I will finally get some support as I am not coping with it all very well on my own (I get so down so easily as I feel totally alone so far in this journey) I spent ages explaining WHY it affects me so much in this way (having to cope with everything on my own is difficult). Keeping fingers crossed that we can start working more as a team.
On a more positive note I am doing fantastic with the fact that even when I get down I have not started with my coping spending again. That is a major thing that has always made me feel better short term but made the debt side of things worse long term.
Will not be making as large an overpayment this month as I would have liked as I have a water bill to pay, but due to the getting in control of everything at least I can PAY it! :T0 -
Silkglade YOU are doing really well! Look how far you have come already, it really is inspiring. My OH suffers from anxiety and depression and I completely know where you are coming from. I myself have on several occasions have stuck my head in the sand and spent regardless in the past. Circumstances are a bit of a B****r ! and always seem to crop up when you least expect them. Keep positive and things will turn around for you. You have a OH at home whom I am sure loves you very much even if he is a bit of a twerp on the finances front. Have a good rant on here and get it out of your system, we are all in the same boat together.
Take it a day at a time and don't beat yourself up, You are doing the best that you can do with the circumstances that life has thrown at you.Grocery Challenge Sept 2021 £95.40/£500
