Buyers not being in for couriers

Personally, if it's only £2 more, I'd use Interparcel and leave citylink well alone. As with everything, buy cheap, pay twice.
I get what you're saying but as I said Iv'e had no problems with them , yet (touch wood) and its £2 per delivery, roughly 10-15 per week, so it's actually between the £1250-£1500 mark a year, not small change when viewed like that0 -
If I need it for my business, I don't buy from ebay in the first place to be honest, and I place the order by phone. I ask who the courier is, if they tell me citylink, I don't place the order. I really do need stuff tomorrow sometimes. None of my suppliers do use them nowadays, some used to, but they don't anymore.
Someone like Hammyman churning out a few old secondhand laptops from his backroom is probably ok for a cheap and cheerful service, and I might take a punt if it doesn't matter when or if it arrives, and I would be ok to do an INR, but not if it's important that I get it.
Citylink really are that bad.
I've sent out hundreds of laptops a year with them. Apart from the bad weather last Xmas, I cannot recall a single occassion when they weren't delivered when they were supposed to be and the number needing to be redelivered I could probably count on the fingers of one hand. I've not had one single contact, email, phone call or anything from any customer ever asking where their laptop was. So if they've been in its been delivered on time, if they've been out they've got carded.
I HAVE EVEN HAD CITYLINK DELIVERY DRIVERS PHONE ME WHEN THEY HAVE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING AN ADDRESS because my phone number was on the label so I'd assume they'd phone the customer in the same situation when I am able to put the customers phone number on.
Doesn't sound like a company who don't really give a toss. It is certainly above what some other companies you'd be prepared to use would do. You would never ever get a Parcelforce delivery driver phoning anyone - they'd just take it back and say they couldn't find it.
I can only assume you live in the most deprived dump of an area in the entire UK or you are on some remote mountain top in the Highlands if you are having so many problems.
And I've probably worked for many of the companies you see as decent and as a trunk driver, I've seen both how the depots AND the hubs work. And because of that there are two companies I would never use simply because the way they treat the parcels its amazing that any actually make it from A to B in once piece.0 -

Any mail or internet order means there has to be someone in to receive the parcel, or it has to go in a parcelbox, that's why I always try to find out how it's being delivered. A seller on ebay offering a courier I'll pass on if another seller offers RM normally.
The thread started out discussing non delivery as the customer wasn't in. Several of us, including me, suggested maybe the courier wasn't reliable, and just wasn't delivering, or was inflexable on re-delivery, so I would have no problem with an INR on ebay, as it's impossible to actually get citylink to deliver.
So the relevance of my post was in answer to the rant about buyers not being in for a delivery, was that I was trying to make the point some buyers have a life outside of ebay, unlike some sellers apparently, and from my personal perspective I've decided to largely buy elsewhere as a consequence.
It appears the poster in post 31 agrees with some of my sentiments.0 -
This is a very important post. Just because a courier company CLAIMS that they attempted delivery, doesn't mean that they DID attempt delivery. People are saying things such as that they've kept up their side of the bargain if they've sent the item. Well, if there's non-delivery, it's quite possible it's because it's the courier that is at fault, not the buyer. And in that case, why should the buyer be out of pocket?
I spent over an hour on the phone with City Link yesterday. Truly awful service. They claimed they attempted delivery (though at what time depended on who I spoke to). I was in the whole day waiting for them. I didn't even have a shower because I didn't want to miss the doorbell.
I absolutely had to have the parcel yesterday. Today, I no longer need it. Had to have it returned to the sender.
They don't attempt delivery then they lie about it. The courier lied, then the customer service person lied. When the sender called them, they lied to her, too.
This is not the first time I've had these kinds of issues with City Link. Never use them as a sender.
If I was this useless at my job, I would've been sacked long ago. How are these people still employed? Maybe I should write to the head office to complain. Unemployment is really high in my area. I'm sure there are honest, reliable people who'd love to have this courier's job.0
