Buyers not being in for couriers

They are all awful. I also dread having anything sent by courier. You can't even take a dump while waiting. I've just had a phone delivered by Interlink. Fortunately I heard the card hit the floor before he got away. They should recruit them for ninjas.0

It can be difficult to make sure you are in for couriers. The only time Hermes tried to deliver to me, they didn't leave anything at all. The only indication I had that they had attempted delivery was from looking on their website! I would have had to take a week off work and not gone out all day to make sure I was in when they called!
I've stayed in a couple of times for City Link where they didn't turn up when they were supposed to. One was a delivery and one was a collection. On both occasions, it was because the courier ran out of time. DPD came exactly when they said they would!0 -
We used to send with City Link where I work; in the end changed for various reasons. I've personally had instances where they claim they've attempted delivery to my work address but I know they haven't (benefits of recorded CCTV).
For the past few years we've sent via Interlink Express. We've certainly had less issues (we send several thousand parcels a month) although of course, no courier is perfect. Customers really like the hour timeslot notification as well (as long as they deliver in that timeslot of course!).
We're currently trialling Yodel as they are, for volume sending, dirt cheap. Their dispatching software is cack and getting through to their depots on the phone is a pain even for our customer service staff, so I imagine it's not great for customers.
A couple of general things I would say from my experience:
1) I've yet to come across a courier who doesn't have trouble delivering to flats. They all hate it.
2) Unless it's something really large, pretty much anything I buy online I have delivered to my work address. It always baffles me why people who could do this, don't do this and then complain the courier attempted delivery when they were at work. If you can remind people this is an option when you're selling, maybe this can help reduce failed deliveries.0 -

I was in the whole day waiting for them. I didn't even have a shower because I didn't want to miss the doorbell.
I absolutely had to have the parcel yesterday. Today, I no longer need it. Had to have it returned to the sender.
They don't attempt delivery then they lie about it. The courier lied, then the customer service person lied. When the sender called them, they lied to her, too.
This is not the first time I've had these kinds of issues with City Link. Never use them as a sender.
If I was this useless at my job, I would've been sacked long ago. How are these people still employed? Maybe I should write to the head office to complain. Unemployment is really high in my area. I'm sure there are honest, reliable people who'd love to have this courier's job.
thats quite a sweeping statement
for example if a courier scans an item as attempted delivery or whatever
then thats the data the customer service works from0 -

thats because delivering to flats is an utter PITA
dodgy buzzer systems, folk who are to scared/lazy or whatever to answer the buzzer
buzzers in random orders with no names/numbers
houses converted to flats with random positioning of doors
etc etc0 -

Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's not justified hate! For example, I lived in some flats in Manchester where the Royal Mail postie had a code he could use to come in and get to the mail boxes.
Of course, a courier wouldn't have that so if they came to deliver something, the best they could do if there was no answer would be to push a card under the front door of the building.0 -

The courier claimed to have attempted delivery when he didn't.
Customer service said they'd definitely call me back and let me know where the parcel was. They didn't.
When the sender called them, she was also told that they had attempted delivery. When she challenged them, they changed the time of when it was supposedly delivered, from 5pm to 9am. I don't even know when the second time came from. According to the site, it was only loaded on the van at 8.30am. Unless I was the first stop directly from the depot, there's no way he couldn't been here at that time. And, of course, I was in at 9am, too.
City Link actually came this afternoon with the parcel. I told them to send it back to the sender because I no longer need it. I told them the same thing yesterday, but obviously that didn't register.0 -

I live in a flat in a converted Victorian terraced house. There's one entrance and three flats. The flat numbers are clearly written on the buzzers.
Despite this, half of the time people press the wrong one or, better yet, all of them. It's not just couriers. Tesco drivers do that, too. And pizza delivery guys.
This is London. Almost everyone I know lives in a flat in a converted terraced house. It really isn't that complicated.0 -
