Lloyds TSB branch sale

Options
Not sure if this has already been posted, but I came across this list of all the branches of Lloyds TSB and C&G being sold off.

Don't think a buyer has been found yet though

The Co-op told the Lib Dem conference that they were the most likely bid to succeed.

Branson is, apparently, sniffing around although it's thought he'll be more likely to take on Northern Rock.

The Australian owners of Yorkshire / Clydesdale are also in the race, possibly by allowing themselves to be taken over first.

The C&G network's an interesting one. Very much an old style building society in disguise. No ATMs. No current accounts or credit cards. Somewhat ederly customer base.

C&G was the mortgage element of LloydsTSB, however now they are with Halifax I think this may be why they are selling off the C&G.

LBG are keeping the C&G brand name and the old C&G head office site in Gloucester.

Of C&G branded stuff it's just the branch network and associated accounts (savings and mortgage) that are being sold. Two years ago they were going to close down that network anyway!

C&G mortgages that were not sold by the C&G branch network aren't part of the sale.

On top of that there's Intelligent Finance, around 450ish Lloyds TSB branches (including all of the Scottish network), the TSB brand name and something else that escapes my fragile memory.

Weren't they talking about looking for additional branches to add to the portfolio?
  • I don't like this list the branch near where I live is closing, it is the only bank in the area too.

Still the branch where my account is open near where I work remains open.

Vickers would like them to sell more customers. He wants the new bank to be a serious challenger. Lloyds doesn't.

The new owners will have an interesting predicament. Of the bunch of customers they get sold, some may be happy, others may be distinctly disgruntled and moan about every change. And the numbers will be depleted because some will have opted out of being sold by skipping to another Lloyds branch.

So if they've got any sense they'll be nice to any Lloyds customers who drop in.

And it's good news for any Lloyds basic account customers who get sold, they'll probably get access to the Link network.
