Ex-employer taking ages to provide a reference????

you said earlier that you already told new employer you were dismissed, didnt you???
thus making inclusion of dismissal in the letter irrelevant???0 -

maybe no legal enforcement, but she is not certain of that, and just the idea of a solicitor approaching her might frighten her into a rethink.
doesnt she have a manager you can ask??0 -

but has she been asked? and the manager of that manager? surely someone at the top will take responsibility even if no one else will.0 -

The manager above the moron im speaking of is the highest. She is the propritor of the whole thing.
So noone higher. She should give a reference tbh she has naffed by finances up completely I had to use all my house savings to live off! all because she dismissed me0 -

All that may be true but the hard fact is that you have no means of forcing them to provide a reference.
As I pointed out earlier even if you somehow managed to get them to write one against their will there is a grave danger that it will not be helpful.
Realistically all you can do is to ask nicely once or twice more. If that fails your only option is to hope that your original employment contract, payslips and P45 are enough to prove you worked there.0 -
i know. just keep at it. you've got nothing to lose.
you could ask a solicitor to send a threatening letter or something as a bluff if you feel she doesnt take you seriously, which she clearly doesnt by the sounds of things.
You don't seem very good at understanding people. That's not a dig, it's just an observation. Some are not good at the people things but those that recognise it usually try harder.0 -
There's plenty to lose. The idea is to persuade her ,, encourage her,, to write the reference. Go barging in your method and you'll !!!! her off so much that she outright refuses.

hang on. im assuming the OP has posted here because the woman hasn't been responsive to persuasion and encouragement. in fact their first post said they'd been waiting three weeks. now im not saying in law they have to provide a reference as a result of that letter, but i think they are 'duty-bound' to do so, for want of a better word.
and ive mentioned elsewhere that people at the very top of organisations have to take unpopular decisions - decisions and actions that not everyone will agree with. just because you annoy one person doesnt mean that action must not be taken!
those people are at the top of organisations not by luck, and certainly not down to the fact that they have upset people and it has counted against them!0 -
ignore uncertain by the way, ignores the facts and backs where ever he thinks the status quo lies!
And this is coming from someone who thinks that throwing drinks over his colleagues at a works social is acceptable behaviour. Don't like the advice, insult the poster. How grown up.
OP - have you given a moments thought to the reason why the only person you are talking to on this thread is Milkshock? And it isn't bacuse he is right. It's because nobody else can be bothered arguing with a troll.0 -
