  • Evening everyone. Spends this weekend are as follows.

    £22.74 - Mr Mozzies
    £16.70 - Local Butchers(kilo mince,chicken fillets,homemade burgers,biggest piece of pork for fiver!)
£14.14 - Local grocers (inc yogs & cottage cheese)

Grand total of £53.58 sooo yesterday I used the mince to make and freeze

2 mini shepherds pie(easten this teatime, with portion for me for lunch tom)
    4 chili con carne
    9 spag bol
The pork leg yielded 2 1/2lb of pork pieces now split into portions - have the bone sat in my fridge with a few scrappy bits of meat on it? Any suggestions for it?
The chicken fillets I just froze as DD2 likes to make fahitas.

Oh and I was given a box of 2kg of lincoln sausages as they would have gone out of date that day and giver could not use or store them - so I also divvied them up into about 8 useable portions to freeze.

Trouble is I had to sacrifice the ice cubes and a loaf of bread (60p) to get the above in - but I think it will be worth it.

Oh and I bought what looks like a crossbreed of a veg - a romanesco - part broccoli, part cauliflower - tried it raw very nice quiet sweet and nutty but need some inspiration there too!

Now off to catch up on all others posts and sort signature out too!

Has anyone tried the Aldi dishwasher all in one tablets? I usually use the fairy platinum ones but don't think they are on offer anywhere at the moment and the Aldi ones are only £3.99 but I don't want to make a false economy.

Not heard about the Aldi ones but have heard Tesco value ones are really good, and you only need half a tablet. Or have you thought about making Gloop? - do a search on OS board for this...

I have some updates to do but need to dig out the reciepts. Am not doing too well thru having had to get some convenience stuff due to illnesss.
Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

  • £3.99 today on moth deterent, there are some flying round the sitting room and didn't know if they are clothes eating ones or not...

i'm ok on spending as long as i try not to spend more than £5 every day (with £20 kept to one side for a couple of meals out).

hardly anything in that goes with anything at the moment, so going to have to have a think on the packed lunch and breakfast front tomorrow. full of cold so not motivated to think about it tonight, hence pasta cheese veggies tonight, used all the milk, all bread used...

    um...

hello! i was wondering how to join the challenge? i've set myself a challenge of only spending £100 this month on groceries!
so far (checking back on reciepts) we've spent £12! so have £88 left.
We're also eating from the freezer, not buying any more cleaning, hair and beauty products until we've used them all up! so that will help our bill!!

hollieinbloom - just highlight your £100 budget/target in your post, by increasing the size and making it red using the 'sizes' and 'colors' selectors at the top of the panel where you type it in. Making your target big and red helps Helen Jelly spot it, and she'll add you to the big list of everyone's targets at the start of the thread. Good luck - you're off to a much better start than me, and I have the same target :rotfl:

NSD for me on Sunday and £12 spends added for Monday - lots of reduced and lazy stuff bought, as we're both a bit under the weather with colds and can't really be bothered [speaking of which, I still haven't used that rainbow chard - if I don't tomorrow, it'll have to go in the compost bin, and I'd hate to have to report that :o so I guess it'll be accompanying whatever we have for dinner].

I have a couple of small things I want to get in tomorrow, then it's off to the seaside for a couple of days for our anniversary [we'll be keeping it cash- and vouchers-only, separate budget], then at the end of the week I'm hoping to do one of my smallest ever Mr S orders [in cost terms] of bulky things like loo roll and drinks.

Then we won't have much GC budget left, so I foresee plenty of eating out of the freezer and cupboards in the second half of the month :rotfl:
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o

Probably a wasted effort but have you made sure that the vent isn't clogged with fluff? If you can work out how to open it (on mine there is a hole on the back of the machine where the elephant's trunk pipe goes in, and the other end of the vent is below the fluff filter) and vaccuum as much as you can reach it sometimes helps - might be overheating because it doesn't get enough air? Apologies if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs :rotfl:

My poor dryer is getting on a bit, it has already had a trunk transplant (held in place with sticky pads and parcel tape)! I had checked all filters and outlets for fluff, but I may see if I can take the back off to clean inside and look for any obvious signs of wear/burning etc.
I did manage to get 2 loads out on the line yesterday in the wind, not fully dry but a lot dryer than the towels that I have had on my airer for 2 days:(. I used to manage without a dryer when my children were small, small clothes mean less time to dry, but now they are older (22,13,10) it is a lot harder, I am just glad that DS1 (23) has moved out, his choice in clothing would never have dried!!

Stuck to my NSD yesterday, helped by me being busy running around all day for family and neighbours. Today will be a NSD as well, there is nothing I need at the moment.

    Hi all,

    Week 1 I spent £60.08 of my £50 budget.

Week 2 and I've already spent £17.80. £10 on lunch with Granddad and £7.80 on pizzas and lunch at the co-op.

Hoping for the rest of the week to live on freezer meals and bake my own cakes (I have a sweet tooth and don't want to buy chocolate / cake to feed it). I will need to buy fruit, milk and more lunch things today so I'll report back later.

  • Gosh this thread moves fast:D haven't managed to read for a couple of days and pages & pages to catch up on!

Sorry to hear about all the TD problems - I live in dread of mine drying as I've had it since my first house (so must be around 20 years old now:eek:). It's not used as much as when I first had it (very small flat and no room to hang washing) but is vital for towels/bedding etc in the winter.

Well what I do is I keep a face cloth on the bath which I "dry" myself with first-including giving my hair a good squeeze dry. So by the time I use my bathtowel I am almost dry. This is what my Mum taught me but unfortunately my lot just don't/won't do the same! So Ive got the only dry towel in the house!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It's funny as I have 3 towels - big bath sheet, medium for hair, and a hand towel.

I dry my top 1/2 still in the bath with the hand towel, wrap my head in the medium towel, stand up & wrap myself in the bath sheet and then dry my legs off with the hand towel while I'm getting out.

My huge bath sheet is always lovely & dry that way and I don't get chilly.

The bath sheet can get hung straight up, the hand towel sits over the radiator (even when off) and the hair towel goes over the side of the bath - both dry nicely before I need them again.

This is what I was taught when I was little by DGM & DM & it's stuck - it never even occurred to me before that it was probably their way of not having huge towels lying around & trying to get them dry!;)

So, a small spend of £10.94 at Mr A (courtesy of DM) yesterday bringing me to £49.68/£100.

Not doing too badly but still more than 1/2 the month to go!
