  • So, I'm nearing the end of my first week and our totals so far are that i've spent £158.13/£450.

Sounds like a lot, but I think it's ok as it includes the household items like cleaning stuffs and nappies and a new set of scales (I drowned the last ones) and I try to buy organic dairy produce which is obviously quite a bit pricier than I could get it for.

Have mainly been using A*di and sainsbob's although the deals of the week have to go to our independent supermarket just up the road where I got 3 huge bunches of the freshest most wonderful coriander for £1!! :j and 5 pomegranates for £1!! Granted, neither was totally necessary but I couldn't resist. I've tried some coriander in the freezer, so we'll see how well it freezes. Also got 4Kg of red lentils for £4.99 - that's quite a lot of lentils, the pushchair had a life of its own on the walk home!

Might get a chance to go to Wolverhampton market today - interested to see how the prices of the market differ to supermarkets.

And final good thing is that I've been making some bread, it's getting better and really makes me smile!:)

Good luck everyone - keep up the good work and enjoy the weekend.

p.s. ignore the signature below, i did it wrong and will go and sort it out now....
  • Hi all,
Feeling a bit better about our spending this week. Have spent £20 between a couple of visits to the co-op and sainsbugs. Had to get tea bags for work (decided to only buy a smaller bag of 80 as it feels like i'm the only one remembering when we need some at the mo).
Just about to update signature but feel I am doing better than last month:D so here's hoping.
Really enjoy reading how everyone else is doing so big hugs and thanks guys and gals, it really does make the journey more enjoyable:).

  • :hello:

I haven't taken part in this challenge for ages  I'm not going to set a target for October, just going to get an idea of what we have been spending and then set a target for November. I also need to get back in to the habit of meal planing and making a list for shopping. I can't wait to dig out the SC and start making some yummy meals.

Thanks to a late night Approved Foods shop (why do I do that?) I now have over 20kg of pasta on my worktop... I think I will have to give a LOT of it away, when I find something to put it in! Help!

Pasta keeps well-why give it away? do a meal plan where you use 1kg a week and in 20 weeks you have no pasta! How is it wrapped at the mo? Is it all in one packet? When I open pasta I tend to close it with a strong bag clip and then put it in a polythene bag-a swingbin liner if they are big bags. Maybe its where to store it? Loft? Garage? If worst happens and you really cannot find anywhere to store it then why not SELL it to your friends at cost or just a little above?:money:

    Hello All

Eventually getting a chance to update my grocery spends this week.

    Monday £5.25........bread milk etc.
Tuesday £ 3.87........home bakery sweets etc.
Wednesday £2.76.... kids treats after school :)
Thursday £16.82 ..... Tesco...Milk, Orange juice, Red wine :), Chicken fillets, bananas..... reduced Lasagne family one £2...tonnes of reduced bread...freezer full to the brim :):)

Witnessed this lady refusing point blank to buy reduced bread when her husband lifted a malt loaf. It was hilarious she
was looking around to make sure everyone could hear her say NO NO NO ... her hubby says 'we could toast it'...she was mortified O)

Picture me ducking and diving in front of them filling my tolley with an abundance of bread!!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious.

Great bargains Nann flatbread baps malt loaves etc etc etc :):):):):):):)

I would like to point out I did not clear the shelves...tempting though it was!! I always think someone else might need some too.

I seriously think I was grinning like a crazy woman as I walked away. Shouldn't let me out of the house :):):):):):):):)

Today so far ..... zilch, zero but will have to let kids (please note youngest nearly 16 .. i.e my 6ft baby!!!) hit the shop for crisps and drinks after school and eldest home from Uni. All staying in tonight so munchies needed but there will be a budget!!!

Don't mind doing this as I am well within budget and they are good kids:)

Enough in to cover weekend.....lunches usually are sandwiches, stir thru pasta, etc.
    Dinners are as follows
Today..... ....Fish Potatoes(homegrown) veg parsley sauce...
Saturday.....Home made pizza and some of that whoopsied garlic and parsley flat bread ...6p:)
Sunday.......Chicken Balti with rice and Nann...6p :) and also Lasangne (whoopsied) Chips and salad for the rest. We feed 7 on Sunday evening...anything left will be ate on Monday.

    Will update total shortly.
