  • My car has gone :(:( , we got more than we expected which is a bonus, but am feeling very sad tonight :o. I know it's just a car, but it was my car....

The money will be in our bank account by Friday and then decisions must be made about which cards to apply it to. OH has made his suggestions, which was useful. He's also said that we should have a ceremonial cutting up or burning of each card as they're cleared :). He's now seeing this as our 'road to recovery', which is comforting ;).

I've also told him that we won't be going to the wedding party and he's taken it on the chin.

So all in all a good, if emotional, day :).

  • No major plans for today, just need to stick to the straight and narrow and hang in there til payday :o.

My DS was asking for a new pair of football boots last night. As there's only £30 in the clothes budget for next month, then he's been asked (told!) to wait for Christmas. Just hope his current boots last til then ;).

I need to find a couple of £s this morning to give him for football practice, luckily I still have a few pounds in my purse from the euros I exchnged yesterday. I find it can be the little things like this that can throw me into a tizz :(.

  • What a glorious day :D.

I've just posted my MSE to do list on the small things thread, so I'm going to cheat and post it here too!
    • Check bank
    • LOs for lunch, jambalaya (sp?)..nom, nom :D
    • Top up food using £15 of vouchers from M0rr1s0ns
    • Post V5 slip to DVLA to notify them that the car is sold
    • Contact insurers re above and see if there might be a rebate (hope so ;))
    • Check SO to Prem Bonds to make sure I've put it back to £50pm
Trying to tackle the money saving from all angles now :). OH took LO spag bol to work, so all leftovers now used up :). The voucher shop is also done and we stayed within the £15, so no cash outlay.

  • Hi Been

I've only just joined MSE despite being a long time lurker.

I've snowballed our debt which is all on credit cards and the DFW date is April 2017 which is far too long so I'm going to really do my upmost to bring that down.

I've joined the October £10 a day challenge but only £5 a day and if I achieve that it could be £150 off a card.

I'm going into to Mr T's on my way home from work and I'm only going to buy the cheese that is on buy 1 get 2 free and if I succeed that will be a first!!!!

Good luck and I shall keep popping in to see how you are progressing but it's very hard isn't it.

Hi Lizzieknit55, thanks for popping in and posting, it's always nice to have a visitor :D.

Good luck with your £5/day challenge and hope you managed to get just the cheese :).

Yes, it is hard. I find it especially difficult if it's things the children want (as opposed to need) and ironically even worse when they have a glimmer of understanding and voluntarily want to go without :o.

I think the important thing is to keep taking baby steps whilst knowing that it won't last forever :). Good luck with your journey :)

  • Hi

Just done my daily check of the bank account and we're within £8 of the £2000 od limit. That's as expected. There's just one more DD to clear and then it will be on the limit :o.

Our pays as showing as pending, and I can't wait for them to be credited tomorrow....hate wishing my life away, but I feel like I'm treading water at the moment and want to get started on our debt-busting plans ;).

Popping in to say hello :hello: and wish you well, your figures sound a bit like mine and the vehicle problem is too, were only running one car now and it took a while to get used to it but I find we try to fit things around shopping and picking up kids etc You will manage and you sound really positive. I also struggle with the emergency fund thing, we have no savings to speak of and no credit card now :eek: so it really is a struggle when things go wrong so hopefully we'll try and get another savings account going soon.

  • Hi Turfy6 :wave:thanks for popping in, it's lovely to have visitors :).

Yes, it's a bit daunting not having the car, we've taken having two cars for granted for years even though we obviously couldn't afford it :o. Today was relatively easy - into work and back home together...and luckily the fuel lasted :).

It's a really brave step to get rid of the credits cards, and a step we will be takingas each one is killed off! The EF will be the only reason I'll feel confident enough to do this though. It's a bit like mobile phones, isn't it...how did we ever manage before they were invented  lol.

You're doing tremendously well with your debt busting, btw, your signature gives me hope :).

  • Hello from me to, and while it's sad news about the car, it's good news to give yourself a good start to clearing the debt. I'd pay the card with the highest APR, I know it's better mentally to pay one of completely, but can you not move some of the higher APR balance over to 0%? Interest is horrible to pay....

If you can't bring yourself to do it, how about half on each? Make both targets more manageable.
You have to start to finish.
