Hi there Beencounting
I've just read your diary from the start and wanted to say congratulations on your progress and thanks very much for the motivation. You're doing great.
I'm also buying lots of train tickets at the moment for a course I do one day a week. It really is worth shopping around online for cheap tickets. The earlier you book them, the bigger the discount. I've also just discovered you can buy train tickets with t3esco points. And £10 of points = £30 of train tickets. Not sure if you can spend the points on any old tickets but am planning to look into it myself when my points arrive.
Anyway, well done on keeping going. I'm fairly new to this too and it's not easy is it? But we will get there.

Hi Ani*fan, thanks for popping in
I can't believe I'm motivating others, but if I am, then I'm really pleased :jit makes it all a bit more worthwhile.
I think I'd seen something about the tesc0 points and train tickets, but haven't got round to checking it out as yet. I think I'll put that on my list for today. I don't get a great deal of points as I rarely shop in tesc0 (it's too expensive!), but I seem to pick up a few each quarter and this would be a great way to use them...thank you.

Hi Scotdebs
I'm really struggling with our food budget. I suppose it's partly because it's a five-week-month and also cos we're trying to get used to a reduced budget. I will need to review for next month as otherwise I'm going to be constantly overspent
.

I'm still dreaming:rotfl:
On the plus side though, there was some good news in the post - I've received an unexpected statement from Nationwide for an account I'd forgotten about. There's only £8.68 in there, but I'll be finding out tomorrow how to draw it out so I can pay it off the CC
OH has also traded in DDs old phone, we could get £22 cash or £24 Arg0s vouchers. We've gone with the latter as we need a microwave. Ours blew up in July and we've been wanting to replace it for months. I'd worked this into the plan for next month, so this is a bonus.

Well I've just had a look at the Tesc0/train ticket offer. For £10 of vouchers, we can get £30 of train tickets. The downside is that it doesn't look like you can buy season tickets, so it's the daily cost.
My weekly season ticket is £20. The equivalent cost in vouchers is £10 as it would cost £27.50 for 5 x daily tickets. In cash terms, the cost is nil.
I think this would be a good way to use the vouchers at this stage in our debtfree journey, as the cash saved can be re-routed to the CC.
It will have to wait though, as I currently only have £6.50 in vouchers.
