  • Have you got a one year guarantee with ASDA?
Read the terms of that guarantee.
As mentioned above, you may well need a receipt to get it fixed under guarantee.

just going off what I was told at point of sale. I would take a refund, exchange or pay more for a better model

Clearly you still haven't read that article I linked to earlier.

your right, I only read what I thought was relevent using the links at the top. will re-read

As you worked at asda you should always remember telling customers to keep there receipts so they can prove or use the warranty.

At any time in Dec 10/Jan 11, did you spend more than £90 (on anything) at Asda and pay by card? If so, print off your bank statement and take that as proof of purchase.

Bit of a long shot to say the least.
Just suppose their records show they sold one for cash on 24 Dec 2010. How do you prove that's the one?

With no proof of purchase, you'll have to buy another one - and keep the receipt!
But if the op used his staff Asda discount card to purchase the DVD the information is available.(Asda monitor the use of staff discount cards for abuse)

Its no longer in the two closest stores.

I read you can challenge them and ask them check their systems? re scanning the bar code I suppose?

I queried this and was not possible

How can they check using a barcode, surely if you worked in ASDA not even on checkouts you would know that Barcodes are not unique on each individual item.

They will be the same on every model of that DVD player they have ever sold, so it doesn't prove that you purchased it from them.

My advice is bin the broken dvd player and buy a new one.

And keep the receipt this time.
  • I work on the ASDA customer service desk. The 1 year guarantee is clearly explained whenever someone buys an electrical item (or it should be). There's a leaflet which explains that you must keep the receipt to get a refund under the guarantee. If you had paid by a card, then it's possible to trace that through the in-store computer system to find the relevant transaction. But by cash, it's pretty much impossible. Even if we could find the item, how do you prove it was you who purchased it? We have no access to colleague discount data, and we won't be given it by ASDA House.

Basically, you need to find your receipt. If not, nothing we can do about it. Your sale of goods rights still require proof of purchase, whcih is no help.

we paid by card , as printing the statements off, our on-line banking does not let us see old statements. we shop they weekly, what if their are multiple payments to adsa in that month , some may be around the same amount. How could they identify which is correct one?

would their be some sort of reference number/transaction number that ASDA would use?

We have been old its £12 per statement can can take 8 weeks..eek
