    Thanks for the info.

I applied 8 days ago. I now have an appointment to open the account in branch next week. By which time either the paperwork will have arrived and I can take it with me or I will start again from scratch. Shouldn't make much difference apart from the extra credit check ( which doesn't bother me unless that results in a fail).

I do want this done quickly as I want the phone insurance to start as soon as possible. Son has gone off to uni with iphone and for peace of mind I want it insured.

Are you sure that an iPhone that isn't in your possession would be covered? You might be OK, the insurance document just says that "Mobile phones must be owned by the account holder" but it might be worth getting confirmation of cover before starting to pay out your £8 a month. And if it is covered make sure your son knows the conditions for making a claim if anything does happen to it.

It is my contract, in my sole name. iphones are covered but with a £100 excess. I can't see the full details til I get a welcome pack, though the summary details just require ownership. Usually the only condition that causes problems is if you give the phone to someone under 18, but as said son is 21 it shouldn't be a problem- though I will check.

You'll get the welcome pack once the account is opened - don't forget you can cancel within 14 days if it's not right.

When you go in branch, tell them you are already a 3rd Party on your son's account. Hopefully it will make things easier.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

Opened in Branch with one problem.

The address they have on their computer is 6 years out of date. I've told them about this numerous times and each time they promise to change it but it hasn't been done. She tells me this is common, caused by change of address notifications have to go to their Leicester offices and they often get lost or not actioned. So she can change it in branch but only with a managers authority and that will take a few days.

So my son's account (that I have 3rd party access to) and a joint mortgage on another property (not home) that I have with NatWest, both have an outdated home address for me. She did say the correspondence address is correct on both, but I'm not happy. Not bothered about a few days delay, but annoyed that they don't action change of addresses.

Particularly as I only completed the forms to be added to son's account a few months ago and so obviously used my current address!

Just remembered, a second minor problem. The select silver account doesn't have a cheque book.

I asked that and was told it is the full select silver account but it doesn't come with a cheque book as standard. She said a lot of people open them just for the travel and mobile phone insurance and never really use the account, so they don't go to the expense of printing cheque books. If you use the account, then after a few months they will suggest a cheque book to you. She was actually quite surprised when I said I intended banking through this account.
