Nationwide Soft-Search
Comments

Hi guys
Just an update from my previous posts - I'm pleased to say I received my nice shiny new Nationwide credit card and pin thru the post yesterday - no mention of providing ID on any of the correspondence!
Will be phoning to transfer my nasty 24.9% balance to my new 0% 20 month deal today! :j
If they ask for ID on the phone it's not a problem I can nip down to my local branch today.
Thank you for all your help and advice, much appreciated

Just as an aside to my Nationwide soft search @ £1800/15.9% which was an instant decline, I then applied for a Lloyds TSB credit card as Moneysupermarket soft search said 8/10 chance, that was also an instant decline.
Neither of the above cards were needed (I was merely testing the water) but I realise that I have now blotted my record with two searches which will stay on a year, as I won't need to apply for credit in the next year I thought I may aswell try for one more card so that all the searches drop off at the same time. Today I applied for a John Lewis Mastercard, which is a HSBC card, and was instantly accepted - there's nowt so queer as credit card companies! No idea what limit/rate yet but as and when that arrives I will get rid of my Vanquis card, bye-bye sub-prime, hello mainstream0 -
Maybe Nationwide and Lord Spank both use Experian and John Lewis use Equifax?
Who knows how they come up with their decisions eh? And now because you dont need the credit card, you'll be filling in the cancellation form within 14 days and not continuing with the application process???0 -

Who knows how they come up with their decisions eh? But good news, and now because you dont need the credit card, you'll be filling in the cancellation form within 14 days yes and not continuing with the application process???
Nationwide only use Experian.0 -
That's what I said, my point was that maybe John Lewis dont and thats why he was accepted.
Sorry if it is not as clear as it should be - it should have said 'maybe its because'

Yep, that's right re the credit reference agencies - just checked all three and John Lewis has only searched Equifax. Although there is no adverse (eg late payments, defaults) data on either EX, EQ or CC so still not sure why a decline is more likely with Experian data.
Equifax (which John Lewis searched) shows all three of my credit cards so they can see how I use them and that I am potentially not a profitable customer (spend circa 15% of the limit on each card every month and pay off in full every month). When I said I don't need credit cards I meant in the sense of using the credit facility to carry over a balance - I use all three of my cards every single month but always pay off in full so will be getting rid of the Vanquis and using the John Lewis regularly instead.0 -

First I've heard of HSBC searching Equifax0
