At least you dont get charged for prescriptions, I know what I'd prefer lol. ;)
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I do laugh when people say they use the plastic one to line their bin - that means they only get one more use from it and it still ends up in landfill sites. Slightly better but not much.
Erm, as opposed to buying bin bags...

My council takes carriers for recycling. Why can't other areas?

Today I found out that Tesco have stopped the giving green clubcard points for reusing bags in Wales "due to the 5p charge"

The scheme still applies in the rest of UK..... how mean is that?

Sainsburys are still giving a nectar point per bag re-used though.

I don't do online shopping very often but on the occasions I have then it is always delivered pre bagged.

Would they just bung that on the price or would they ask if you want the shopping lose ?

Online grocery shopping? Sainsbury got the Welsh Assembly to agree they needn't charge till next Spring, Ocado have been given a total exemption. Waitrose start charging very soon, I imagine Tesco will too.

(Waitrose wrote to tell me about it, Sainsbury emailed me; Tesco haven't bothered, typical.)

edit they ask if you want bags

edit 2 the Welsh Assembly thing applies to paper bags too

  • Sounds like the staff's time could be better spent to be honest...

sorry if I wasn't clear. It was the same staff member who is already supervising the self serve who hands out the bags. Not a special bag person!

I loved the conversation between staff in the changing room at Debenhams today.

One had been on the tills previously and said people were full of complaints about the charge for bags for clothing etc. and they were saying "tough on them, they voted in the Welsh Govt. so they have got what they deserve" etc. and should come prepared with bags now or pay up. The other girl agreed with her and they had a bit of a "well it's tough" attitude to customers.

Then one asked if it applied to paper bags and was told yes, even McDonalds! Oh she said "I'm off to Primark lunchtime to get some pumps and why would I have a bag with me for my lunch hour and an impulse buy, mmmh ridiculous" . I felt like saying "tough, pay up":D

Anyway I filled up my carrier bag I keep in my handbag in Debenhams with clothes so had no room for the handbag I also bought but I refused to pay for a bag so just walked out the store with it unpacked. Going to be a nightmare for security staff as I saw one woman say "I'll carry the coat on my arm" rather than pay for a bag too!
