Well I hope that the CAB can help you in some way Jumanji as you don't seem to have very many other options. Its a long shot but you would seem to be a very worthy cause for a charity handout. I just hope that I haven't encouraged you unnecessarily, it was just something I came across and was worth mentioning.

I'm new to all this forum business but your story touched me. My husband had to declare himself bankrupt recently, it wasn't a case of wanting to but there was no other option. I can't say it has been easy but the relief he felt afterwards was immense, no more worrying about phonecalls, letters etc. We still have a long way to go, I'm having to buy back his share of the equity in our house to keep our home for our two children but we are looking to the future, big lessons learned.

So don't despair, I'm sure at the moment you see no future but it does get better. As for court fees, check the Insolvency website which has really good advice about what to expect, what will happen etc and also if you are on benefits they will probably waive the £140.00 fee, my husband didn't have to pay it as he had just lost his job.

Thank you for your kind words livilou. I hope the situation your husband and yourself improves soon. Seems as though you've gotten over the hard part, and I bet you sleep so much better now as well!!!

Malestrom - We will be forever grateful that you advised us to go to the Citizens Advice. Unfortunately they were unable to help us at first, so I mentioned that a friend had informed us of charities that could help. The light bulb went off and the guy went running out to get the book that was metioned!!

They've given me the details of a charity that can help because of my depression, however I'm holding off giving them a call.

Because my H2B was in the army there are lots of people out there who might help us. So yesterday I emailed a few charities explaining their situation and asking if there is anyway they can help.

Today we got a reply from the Army Benevolent Fund, telling us they that they don't help individuals - rather the unmbrella of charities underneath them (hope I'm making sense). So they forwarded our email to the RLC Benevolent Fund who my H2B just got off the phone to.

They have said that it looks like we have got a very good case! They are passing our email on to British Legion Charity who H2B needs to phone tomorrow and arrange for them to come out and go over our financial situation. Apparently the charity does help with bankruptcy so that improves our chances. I will let you know how we get on.

So things are looking a little up. Basically going to see how it goes and keep plodding along.

To be honest I think if it wasn't for this and the DWD board, we wouldn't have made it this far. So thank you all so much!

H2B has today had a letter from Citi Financial offering him a loan between £500 and £10,000. I can't believe people are still trying to give us money!!

We haven't applied for any credit for at least 6 months so I'm in shock that we're having defaults registered, and haven't made any payments for at least two months and they're trying to give us more money!

I have to admit that if we hadn't gone through everything we have over the last two months, we would have borrowed the money to get out of the trouble we're in.

I'm relieved that we understand everything better now, and also shocked that they're still throwing money at us.

They may be offering it but that doesn't mean you'd get accepted. Even the 'guaranteed' offers are subject to a credit check, its usually in the small print.

Well we just got back from the council. Apparently we're not at rock bottom so they won't help us!!!!!

Unless I'm pregnant there's nothing they can/will do! Another thing that works against us is that we are both "fit and healthy" - so that's why I'm not working!!

I can't tell you how defeated I feel, and how much I just want to give up! This is all too hard.

don't give up, you can't let this win.
Have you phoned the national debtline? Sorry if you haveand I haven't read that bit, if not give them a call - it's a freephone number and explain the whole situation and see what they can offer.mm We found them to be most useful, we went to the CAB and they didn't really offer any answers.
I know how you feel, I was ready to just jack everything in as it all seemed too hard. My husband phoned a solicitor - often the first hour advice is free , she was really helpful and answered alot of questions.
Don't give in, you just havn't found the right people to help you yet.

Jumanji, why have you been to the council? What are you trying to get out of them? Are you looking for a place to live? What about where you are now?

I must have missed something here as i've been concentrating on the bankruptcy side of things :(

Were you able to attend court today or has the date been put back?
