Thanks Horace - it's on Sunday and I'll do only light training tomorrow before heading to The Snug in Cambridge, there to gather with others pour La Grande finale.

Not hi-jacking tj, but wanted to remind you about cashback on the watch purchase. A Patek Philippe pour moi please if you're splurging...which reminds me to put a 1960 boxed Tissot on ebay which has been in my stock for years.

Is it realistic that you maybe do a lasagne or macaroni cheese/other pasta recipe to cut into portions and freeze for lunches? They travel/thaw well and will microwave if you have this option at lunchtime. Can feel good as Winter sets in.

I watched the rugby and the best team won although I was on tenterhooks at times.:j

Sorry to hijack your thread but just wanted to say that my parents gave me £2K to part pay my Virgin CC (another £2K next month), they gave me £150 cash to pay for petrol and a decent hair cut (my hair is in desperate need and my grey hair is showing:eek:). I came home with store cupboard items and food for my freezer too, plus half a ton of fruit picked from the garden today. Although I won't quite be debt free with this Virgin CC gone, I won't be that much in debt and I will be able to pay off more.

That's great news Horace! Bless them. Is it a gift or are you essentially shifting the virgin cc to an interest free loan from them?

  • Well I had a bit of a result last night, got a call from the lady I did that market research for and was given £10, and she invited me to participate in another one, but this time for £100! :) I've had to do a few pre-tasks, nothing too time consuming though, and well worth it for the £100.

Also, I've just applied for a Santander current account. I don't like Santander but am aiming to get £100 for switching my current account to them.

So hopefully I am about to be £200 closer to my savings targets! :)

Just catching up with your diary Turbo. The money from my parents is a gift and they have suggested I put my furniture into storage and go back and live with them (I am not sure that I can do that realistically although I do appreciate the offer - we would kill each other after 2 weeks:eek:).

As for the watch it is a swiss watch (think of 5 letter word beginning with R). I have the box and all the papers so if I did decide to sell it, I would get a fair whack back but really I don't see why I should sell it just because I am being bullied by a kn*bhead, as soon as I can get some money then I will pay him what is owed of all the creditors (I don't actually have many - only 4) he is the one who has been the most vindicitive and the most vile.

I know that First Direct will give you £100 if you join them - UK call centre too which is open 24/7 365 days of the year. An online bank which is pretty good - even though I dip into my overdraft and they whack charges on me I still haven't been tempted to switch.
  • Yep, I'm aware of the first direct account, they also have an 8% savings account you can get if you switch to them. Let's just say I'll re-assess the situation once I have received my £100 cashback from Santander ;)

Well, I'm currently babysitting a fast asleep one-year-old nephew and a rather large glass of wine, so thought I'd write an update about a few exciting things I have in the pipeline.

A friend of mine is a photographer and was talking about events she does where she prints out photos there and then for the guests. A nice way for her to bump up her profits. I casually said if the guy she uses to print the pics for her is ever unavailable to give me a call, as I'm technical and am sure it'd be well within my capability. As it happens he can't do it any more so she was really happy to hear my offer. She's offered me £100 a night!

Not sure how often it will happen, but whatever I make will go into my savings pot, in addition to the £100 from market research, and £100 for switching to Santander. If I can keep spotting money making initiatives like this, that mortgage deposit doesn't seem so unachievable after all!

What brilliant luck, tj - it's that Fate/right time/right place thing at work and yippee for that!

Give yourself an extra hour's lie-in tomorrow.

All Qantas flights grounded, too - just after I'd posted a reduced fare email about them on another Thread. They're telling people not to bother turning up until the matter's settled.

I think a separate a/c helps, with a fixed amount going in weekly, no matter how small, just so long as it's happening. Adding sporadic wallops from various extras gives a real fillip when you see your balance rising. My absolute rule is that anything in that one is sacrosanct, so the basic weekly sum must not be impossible to maintain.

Red or white wine? The former, I hope:-)

Well done - things are moving in the right direction, Fabian-style . . . the inevitability of gradualness.

Yes would it be wrong of me to side with Qantas on this one? I am totally sick of these airline staff holding the travelling public to ransom. I was a flight attendant once so feel that I have seen both sides of the story. I really don't believe in striking over pay, especially in the private sector and ESPECIALLY when your job is a flight attendant!!

I have 2 savings accounts and an ISA, with standing orders set up to send a total of £150 distributed amongst each. With this new current account I have also requested an eSaver account. Ultimately, once I have safely saved away my £100 switching deposit, to switch again to First Direct. Not only to benefit from their £100 incentive, but also because they offer a 8% savings account to their customers.
