And they told us to go through every item on our stolen list and match up the thiefs account number to the barcode on the back of the box and we could buy it all back at their cost price, and we had a crime number too. CEX obviously don't care!0

Your local store is the one I used to work at.0 -
My local cex store never had any problems, helpful staff, and good prices on dvds and games compared to new prices. I have bought and sold to cex for several years.0

My order was delivered today. (YES!!)
They look like new and were well packaged in jiffy bags.
The order has been sent by different shops which is the flaw in the system and there is very little profit (if any) I guess after they pay for p+P etc.
They should just say that your order can be long time coming as sent via shops. (I thought that as an online stock position is quoted that is where it comes from) They only say that you can be cancelled as the stock can go in the time you order.
Waiting so long I am less enthusiastic about my new purchase now!!!0 -

Not all shops have the same stock as it depends on what people trade in. They will try to group purchases as much as possible but it usually doesn't work especially with the less popular items.0 -
I am a keen seller at my local CEX and of the hundreds of times that i've been in there i have never seen anyone that remotely looked like they were on drugs. The people selling had genuine, valid reasons for selling, due to upgrade or clearing out a garage etc. Lots of people were buying items too, The people that work in there have always been courteous and helpful with a good knowledge of the items. CEX is a life line for some people who have to sell items to pay bills as they are in debt, but are we not all here because of that reason? I think your post is very disrespectful and completly unfounded. Unless you have personally experienced these situations have can you possibly pass judgement? Thankyou CEX for the tremendous service and prices that you always deliverI may not be there yet, but i'm one step closer then i was yesterday0

I had a lovely encounter at the cex cardiff store a couple of months back, this is an email I sent to Cex customer services.
MESSAGE: To whom it may concern.
I am writing in response to a visit to one of your stores in Cardiff yesterday. After long deliberation i decided to go with your company to trade in a DS Lite console and a Wii balance board and wii console along with a few games.
I had travelled along way to do this as i live 100 miles away from Cardiff. I arrived at the shop and was given a cash price (which is what i wanted) and a trade in price. I was told that i could not have cash as it had run out, i visited the store around 10:30 on saturday morning. At no point in your literature does it say that you may run out of money. However i decided to go ahead with the trade in price.
I handed over the goods for testing and returned an hour later. i was then informed that some leads were missing from the wii console (the sensor bar and AV leads to the tv). I was sure that i had packed them and after a bit of searching i took the wii back and thought that i had left the leads at home. on returning home i have searched from top to bottom for the leads and cannot find them.
My only conclusion can be that they were lost in store through no fault of my own.I decided to spend some of the credit on an xbox game. And asked if the rest of the credit £80 could be spent online. I was told yes, although this is true the way you have to do it is ridiculous. Spend the money on my debit card first then send of the voucher to get it redeemed weeks later. No other high street and online retail outlet runs such a scheme to my knowledge. i am disappointed that fistly i believe the store lost two leads for the wii console, which means i cannot sell the wii as a complete unit, secondly that i was not able to get cash for the items as i arrived within the first 2 hours of opening on saturday morning (19.11.2011) and lastly the online service in regards to store credit. I cannot afford to take money from my account for it to be reimbursed weeks later, which is a shame as i was looking forward to spending the credit online.
I hope you look into the issues that i have raised and will look forward to a response.
This is the reply that I received.
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I apologise that we were unable to offer you cash, cash is on a first come first serve basis, and the way to get a cash payment is to sell your goods online. Unfortunately our voucher redemption process can be slow however we are looking to improve this.

Charlene

I have ordered jonah lomu rugby, a new hard drive and a dvd. just to try and get rid of the credit. and surprise, surprise after ordering the goods nearly two weeks ago, they have not yet arrived. good work CEX.0 -
^ and there's your issue. You arrived within two hours of opening. The stores will open with a basic float, and build up money through sales during the day, and will then use that cash to buy items. Your best bet would be to head there around 3pm when there would be enough cash in the tills to buy in products. This is the same with any store, if there isn't enough cash in the tills, they can't give it to you.
Eg you go to GAME who have, say, a £50 float. You wish to return a £300 PS3 bundle. Physically, this cannot be done in cash.0 -
IIRC CEX do banking runs on Fridays so they won't have the cash on the premises as they would bank back to the basic float.
Also it's a trick they do as cash you can spend anywhere, but gift-cards you will have to spend in store0 -

I've been told its the other way round by staff member - that they have a set amount put aside for cash purchases so the later you get there the less chance you have of selling your items for cash, although the other game stores do it the way you have described.0
