its not possible.
....the OP doesn't say it, but let me guess. iPhone?0 -
How does EU €50 monthly cap works then?...Your home network only get the data from the roaming network sent through once every 24 hour, by that time you could have gone well over your bundle.
Not to mention PAYG.
If they do send once every 24 hours, this doesn't meant that this is the only way to do this.0 -
If it's not possible then the advisor should have said so.
Is it me, or are most complaints about roaming charges aimed at Orange?
Funny that.0 -
No, it's not you.
Orange are notorious for misadvising on roaming and charging through the nose for it.0 -
You bought a bundle and then asked Orange to monitor the use for you and then turn off data.
Now I am no real expert on data roaming, but as far as I can see, you can either turn of data on the handset or get the network to turn it off. But you weren't roaming on Orange uk - you were on a USA network and, as others have said, data use is not in real time, so Orange wouldn't know when you exceeded your limit. And i don't know how Orange could turn off a USA network's data connection.
You may get a reduction though as Orange's costs are nowhere near the rate they charge you - they are the worst for data roaming charges. Push for that.
But you need to know what is and is not possible and the relevant charges and that, I am afraid, takes a bit of effort reading what Orange have on their web site about data roaming. It certainly does not offer what you say you were offered, so I think you may be up against it.0 -
Many Thanks to all involved, i appreciate i may have a been a little silly for believing what i was told entirely, but i wouldnt naturally think to question the orange advisor if they have given me advice regarding my situation why would i double check that it was all true.
Indeed it was an iphone, clearly some of the people on this thread are better read or have more experience in these matters, im not looking for sympathy, simply for advice as to what i can do after being misinformed and now facing a large bill.
i was informed that after the bundle amount had been used then similar to buying pay as you go minutes then you wouldnt have access to the features i am now being charged excessively for.0 -
If you had all the details of your call, where, when and who you spoke to, you would be in a good position, but the bottom line is networks (all, not just Orange) are in no position to 'turn off data' for anything other than fraud. They are not advised of the cost of a service used abroad until a timeframe the could be as fast as 1 day, or 2 weeks. If you could use £500 of data in a day, any suspension would be too late anyway.
As most who go abroad and have heard the horror stories, you buy a local SIM (making sure you handset is unlocked) then simply divert your incoming UK calls to the temporary number. This does not divert texts, but good for voice calls.0 -
Do you mean diverting calls from a UK mobile number to a foreign mobile number? I think this will be much more expensive than paying a roaming price for incoming calls....you buy a local SIM (making sure you handset is unlocked) then simply divert your incoming UK calls to the temporary number. I'm assuming that the roaming network starts a clock when you log in at arrival and that generates the text at the €50 limit (but roaming isn't my area).
PAYG works on a totally separate system to contract (called CAMEL). It can only handle a few roamers, is very unreliable and very expensive to install which is why in some areas you can't use PAYG at all as the local networks won't/can't afford it...0 -
