sausages are hign in carb, you can eat frankfurters which are lower in carbs, you can eat bacon through, with mushroom and eggs
  • I lost 9lb in two weeks on the Atkins diet. I do not eat many carbs anyway because I am intolerant of wheat so did not have a weight problem. I just tried it after seeing Dr Atkins debating with another doctor on American TV. Basically the other doctor was rubbishing Dr Atkins and saying how the diet would promote heart disease, nobody should be advised to eat lots of red meat and so on. Dr Atkins came back at him with various figures but what really made me take notice was when Dr Atkins said that people who weighed 300 lbs were not likely to be making choices between a chicken breast or fish with their salad. To get to and stay at that weight they were probably eating lots of food and lots of carbs and you could not ask them to drastically cut back on food but you could often get them to cut back on the carbs. So a heavy person could eat a whole chicken if the felt like it or a leg of lamb – Dr Atkins said that would not be great but it would be better for weight loss than them eating half a chicken, French fries and a large coke.
When large people begin to see the results and like them then you can introduce portion control and green veg.

I'm another who tried it and didn't like the way it made me feel. I did lose a lot of weight very quickly (about a stone in the first month) but I couldn't keep going with the diet because I had no energy at all on it. I used to feel faint just walking up the stairs! I didn't even have that much to lose before I started (about a stone and a half at that point). The weight and more piled back on as soon as I started eating carbs again.

In the end I lost the weight the old fashioned way - eating less calories than I expended, and tried to ensure that I also met all my nutritional needs at the same time. It didn't take as long as I thought it would, I felt loads better, and was able to eat out in restaurants and with friends without having to worry about finding something I could eat. I lost two and a half stone in total, and so far have been finding it easy to stay at my new weight because I am eating a normal diet, just being more conscious of portion sizes and calories.

I think its worth a try to see if it suits you, but bear in mind that Atkins is supposed to be a lifelong regime, so although the amount of carbs you eat does increase a little over time, it never goes back to what you are currently used to. If you don't like the new way of eating after the first couple of weeks, I would bail out at that point and find another approach that works for you, because it is quite widely recognised that my experience of weight going back on very quickly once the regime is stopped is a very common one.

However you choose to do it, good luck!
  • I too really gave this a good go and it didn't work in fact I ended up heavier than I've ever been in my life. Lost it all now with old fashioned calorie counting.
However low carb definitely works brilliantly for some people.
This is an absolutely brilliant low carb site and forum for low carbers. Tons of info including doing it on the cheap and lots of support from fellow low carbers.

A lot of sausages are high in carbs but some supermarkets make ones with high meat content that are much lower in carbs.

Ive tried atkins before but it wasnt for me as I found it quite difficult but i lost half a stone in two weeks with it once.

I found this website really helpful when I was trying it.
